You have a similar machine to mine. A3000 16/2MB. A3640 68040/25. GVP spectrum RTG card. Subway USB. Elbox Fast ATA controller. X-Surf network card w/ clock ports. I too run 3.9 and it is an OK experience for the most part. I remember the first time I installed each piece of the extra-curricular hardware and saying 'wow, who would have thought an Amiga could do all of this?' Now I am thinking of reconfiguring the machine to just perform a small set of tasks, thus a lot of the modern stuff can all blow away in my opinion.

As far as going to an operating system from the Commodore days, WB3.1 would be a good choice in my opinion. I have become very intrigued by the BetterWB software package. It contains many very good things that will give WB3.1 excellent functionality and it should not instill heavy system demands.

This is the route I plan on taking with my machine. I am tinkering with OS/software configurations in UAE at the moment so I can be best organized when I do it on real hardware.

Best of luck!

I did the same thing.
Bought myself an A3000D and then after 1 month i bought a CSPPC / CV64/3D / Ariande II.

I wanted to max this baby out but i was limited by the space i had so i bought an 3000T and replaced my CV64/3D and my ariadne with an deneb and a prometheus with voodoo 3.

Everything worked like a charm and the system wa lightning fast. But i got bored with it, i had all this power but almost no software to use on the ppc side (4.1does not intrest me)

So i sold all my cards and went zorro all the way and and an pimped MKII so now i have the following system and it feels more amiga then before :-)

A3000T
CSMKII @ 72mhz 128mb
Cybervision 64 ( not 3D)
X-surf
VarIO
Delfina

The A3000 is a great system and i wich you the best of luck with it.
A bit off topic but wanted to share my upgrade story :)

How does that Delfina work for you? Audio upgrade was something I never did in an Amiga. Always did want to try a Repulse card. But anything that would assist in playing MP3's without blasting my cpu usage all to hell would be useful. It seems Jens over at Individual Computers had a simple something or another at one time that would decode MP3's but I have been out of the game too long to remember anything specific.

As far as an original Amiga 3000, I would be interested to hear of anyone's experiences with WB3.1 + the BetterWB package.
