USB Joystick Adapter for 9 pin joysticks
« on: December 12, 2012, 12:59:46 AM »
News from Retroman  (Amigaworld.net)

Hello there!

First, let me introduce myself. I'm a 36 years old engineer from Canada. I'm specialized in networking and electronic design.

Since i'm 8 years old, i'm a Commodre fan. The fan grew up but still, the passion is alive.

Doing my part for the retro community, I decided to build a full production of USB joystick adapter for Atari / Commodore / Amiga compatible joysticks.

This adapter is recognized right a way by AmigaOS, Windows and OSX and can be use with any emulator or game. Now with firmware 2.0 that works great with AmigaOS 4.x!

If you're interested, you can visit my website at http://www.retronicdesign.com/

Cheers!

Nice!  It's not an Amiga unless it has a 9 pin digital joystick port.  ;)
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Hello there,

I'm the hardware designer of this adapter.

Unfortunately, this info was wrong. It won't work with Amiga NG with Amiga OS4 as lionstorm said.

There is a slight difference between the PC and MAC versus Amiga USB stack that make it hang.

Might need some freelancers to help solve this issue.

In the mean time, i'll try to tweak the firmware.

Thank you and sorry for this misinformation.

*** A moderator should modify the first post to remove the Amiga NG compatibility. Thanks! ***

Happy new year!!!

I had some spare time during my christmas vacation. I built a 2.0 version of the software. It now supports USB reflashing so you can reprogram it with a new software as you wish. It could be to support a new version or different hardware. You can build your own if you want!

For example, I built a version that support the Amiga Mouse and is detected by Windows like a standard mouse. Possibilities are now wider opened, keeping the same hardware.

I'm working on a firmware that will support CD32 controllers (6 buttons). If there is beta testers or developpers out there, I'd be happy to assist.

Ciao! Nitz

Great news!

With new firmware 2.0, the adapter is correctly recognized under Amgia NG and Amiga OS4.1.  You can now use your old Amiga Joysticks on your new Amiga through USB.

New orders will be fullfilled with firmware 2.0 installed as standard.

Cheers!

This might be the stupidest question you've ever had, but would it possible for this device to work in reverse with the appropriate gender changers (allow a usb mouse to work on an amiga)?

Nope. It's not only a cable, believe it or not, there is a CPU in there!

Check out on Ebay, there is a module that permit a USB mouse to work on Amiga. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Amiga-USB-mouse-adapter-Brand-new-/120814385754

Yep, I saw the firmware was modifiable, I wasn't sure if it was physically capable of bidirectional comms, for on other reason than curiosity.
