Nice! my A1200T is on the way from ebay. Looking forward to push it to the limits.

Maybe you can answer my question, are these boards newly designed/made or they are old?

I have one question toward this product http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1052¤cy=CAD

If I can use it directly into my A1200 Desktop would it really produce this speed 16.6MB/s promised by Amiga 1200? Would it fit directly? Would I need to do some modification to the card, like cut some corner in order for it to work or is it plug and play any average joe following the manual (it will come with a manual, right?) instruction can install it and it is ready to go?

I have my eyes on it...

eeeek I read this review from AmigaKit website directly:

"After weeks of banging my head against the wall I finally managed to get this working with the help of the English Amiga Board. The guys here tried their best to help me but it all came down to one thing. The socket that snaps over the Gayle chip needed significant modification (no doubt voiding the warranty) to get it to make proper contact with the board. This involved scraping with a sharp blade around the edges and inside of the socket to give more clearance. It's good but not great for the money and hassle i've experienced. Hence 3 stars. Your milage may vary though."

If AmigaKit PROMISE ME THAT THEY WILL DO the scraping and modification where it can fit directly over Gayle chip where I do not have to do scraping and voiding my warranty and possibly even damaging it...I will order it. What do you say AmigaKit?

The FastATA will fit in a desktop A1200 assuming you remove or modify the upper RF shielding.

It fits into the ROM sockets and the ROMs fitting into the FastATA.

16.6MB is the maximum speed obtainable - your results will probably be less and is dependent on CPU speed and other factors. In my Amiga, for example, the hard disk achieves around 9MB / sec with FastATA.

You should never scrape a chip's legs- if the contacts are dirty, use a fine brush and IPA (isopropyl alcohol)to clean the contact points.

What warranty do you have on your Amiga? Surely it has expired after 20 years..

You SOLD ME!! Since it fits on the ROM socket and no longer Gayle....it means it solved the problem with earlier version...BEAUTIFUL! HEY, even if achieves 5 Mb/sec it is better than the original IDE on my Amiga 1200.

With this card and new file system and using hamp I CAN ENJOY my Amiga 1200 as a multimedia system :D :D.

I am going to put it in my cart and pay for it when I receive my money.

One more question AmigaKit :). When I receive my Apollo 1240 it would come with one RAM socket making it 32 MB. If I send you my card, pay for shipping and handling both sending and receiving and for the service of modifying the card, can you add another socket for RAM turning the 1240 from 32 MB Max to 64 MB max. I believe 64 MB is AN EXCELLENT amount of RAM and can never go wrong with that, 32 MB is a little short of RAM space.

Also can you upgrade it from 1240 to 1260 and overclock it? I just need to know.

Thanks in advance.

I think you have misunderstood: the adapter still fits over Gayle also.  Read the product description on our website.  The small board pictured is the Gayle adapter.

But then the guy in the review said he had issue installing it into the Gayle. Is that problem solved?

There are lots of different A1200 revisions and at least three different Gayle chip manufacturers I can think of, so maybe that was the issue.

On my A1200 motherboard it fitted straight onto the chip without issue.

If I purchase the item and for some reason I have the misfortune to having the Gayle chip with that issue, can I then send you the card to make it work with the Gayle chip? Again, I am willing to pay for shipping handling and service fee. I just do not believe I am capable of making it work like that guy in the review did.
