what are your favorite demos?
« on: October 15, 2012, 09:46:55 PM »
Hi all. Im getting some friends over this weekend and ofcourse Im going to show them my c64 and Amiga. Thankfully they know quite a bit about the demoscene and are aware of the limitations of those platforms. However they have never seen a commodore machine in real life! What are the best demos I can show to them? Keep in mind I have 060 / PPC / AGA / CGX / 256MB so I can run almost anything. Ofcourse I have a few of my own favorites in mind:

Skarla - We ride our enemies
TBL - Tint, Starstruck
Mellow Chips - Rise
Potion - Planet Potion
MAWI - ????
Impulse - Muscles
Scoopex - 1000%

As you can see, Im sort of stuck in 1996 and Im missing out on the more recent efforts. Can someone help me out?
Amiga 1200 (1d4) Kickstart 3.1 (40.68), Elbox Power/Winner tower (450w psu), BlizzardPPC 603e+ @240mhz & 060 @50mhz, 256MB, Bvision, IDE-fix Express, IndivisionAGA, 120GB IDE, cd, dvd, Cocolino, Micronik Keycase, PCMCIA Ethernet, Ratte monitor switcher, Prelude1200, triple boot WB3.1 / OS3.9 / OS4.1, Win95 / MacOS8.1

I have bit of a soft spot for Pulse by Nerve Axis (the first demo I tested on my then new 040 board), but there's loads of reasonably recent stuff by Elude, Mawi that has to be seen to be believed :)

If you want to try the dark side, debris by Farbrausch is awesome.

Thanks so far, will for sure get those, too. But some newer titles are still very welcome!

Try these. There are some extremely cool demos from couple of last years for example.

I'll go way way back and say Nemesis.  Second favorite (and damn close) is Motion (Origin 2).  It was so slick, to me, plus it debuted a damn fine Doom engine, later used in the game Fears (which was...not a damn fine Doom clone :P )

Thanks again, some nice suggestions although I tend to ignore the very old releases here. @pVc thanks, that list is excellent! Had so much fun looking them up on youtube and was in for quite some surprises. Have to say that my all-time favorite is still Starstruck by TBL but have written down many releases from Ephidrena, Loonies and Elude, too.

Britelite, no doubt.. Your name pops up everywhere :)

Are you the same Britelite that worked on Byterapers - Extreme?

Nope, it was Mr.Sex and Dr.Dick who coded that one. No-one with my nick was involved in it either :)

Sorry, I swear I saw your name somewhere in a c64 prod that I saw last week and was wondering if you were the same guy.

BTW suggestions for good c64 demos are welcome, too. My favorite is still Edge of Disgrace but I love the Byterapers releases too.

Well, that's no surprise, considering that I have coded several c64-prods :) But unfortunately Extremes isn't one of my demos, even if it is one of my favorite c64-prods ever...

As for c64-demos, you should probably check the Instinct and Booze Design prods from the last 10 years, also most stuff by Oxyron and Crest rule.
