aaa chipset question

i know im gonna get told too old  or  slow ..but  i have often wondered  ..esp with the natami  when it was  coming  ..then it  went  quiet ..an all the  work thats been done with it  re: new type  graphics  chipset ..faster cpu etc ..why noone   has  considered  re doin the schematics  on the AAA chipset  board that was almost  finished  ..my understanding of it was it could be made to run with more than one aaa chipset running ..as  in parrallel  2/3  chipsets ..surely  with a 060  with it it would  be fast enough to browse  online  play  games etc ..i realize  it doesnt  compare  to a ppc but  that never really  took off  that big  ..an interest  in the natami  an others  was  growing  leaps an bounds  ..i would  probably buy one  still ..if it ever comes out ..seems to me that a upgraded  board  that was almost finished  would  be a better starting point ..than basically starting  with a 1200  an trying  to turn it into a super computer ..

The AAA chipset was old even by the time Dave manged to get some working silicon. By that point the commodore engineers were playin catchup to the dedicated graphics chip manufacturers

The AAA would provide reasonably good performance using todays technology but there are parts that are outdated and parts that are missing compared to what is expected today. It's much cheaper to work in an fpga than to create a custom chip too. The Natami route is the proper way to do a modern AGA/AAA. The Natami is not quite AAA but it is a much more flexible and compatible way of seeing what a more modern Amiga could do. AAA would have been a compatibility nightmare for those that liked their old hardware banging games.

For backward compatibility and BETTER then AAA performance, a clean slate would be best.

You can't retrofit it to a real Amiga and 060s are terrible price performance so what's the point?

if we were talking about tooling up to make a recognisable completed single machine prototype like a Commodore 65......
