G'day from Adelaide
« on: June 11, 2012, 04:18:45 AM »
Hi All, AmmmoJammo told me about this great Amiga Forum so here I am!

I had a mate that had a 500 in the early 90's and it made our family pc look prehistoric! I managed to get my own back in 96 and then stupidly sold it in 98 (was a bit poor at the time).

2 weeks ago I stumbled across a pommy guy selling a very clean 500+ for 8£'s (no psu) and grabbed it (shipping was expensive but worth it) and I'm about to go on a massive upgrading spree! :D

I've already acquired a Kickstart 3.1 ROM and WorkBench 3.1 Disk Set and I have a bunch of bits on the way (PSU, Scaler board, 68010 etc) - I'll prolly get an IDE68K with CF adapter, 8mb fast ram & 1mb chip ram board as well. might even drop in an Indivision ECS module too. :D

Welcome mate,

Sounds like a nice project, an A500+ is a nice machine. Are you gettinf it shipped from the UK? They rarely come up on ebay.com.au as I dont think they were ever sold in Aus.

I also live in Adelaide ;-)

Welcome to the forum...

A lot of good Amiga stuff was designed and manufactured in South Australia such as the Phoenix A1000 replacement board.

As for the Amiga 500+ remove the RTC NiCad battery (if it has not been done already) as old batteries will leak and cause corrosive damage to the motherboard.

If you do wish to keep the RTC function replace the battery with either a coin battery hack http://aminet.net/search?query=lithbatt or place the replacement battery far away from the motherboard.

That just shows you haven't been here for 20 years - I moved back in 2007 (spent 7 years in Melbourne & 3 before that in Sydney) and its actually pretty decent now if you ignore the poor driving standards. :D

Hi mate, I'm definately up for an Adelaide meet. I created my handle when I lived in Melbourne, we moved to Adelaide 3 years ago.

I know there is already an Amiga/PC computer club in Unley but I'm not sure if this is still active. I only know about that from doing a Google search, I've never heard the group memtioned on any of the Amiga forums. So probably best to form our own group.

Anyone got any idea's for a meeting place? Some where around the city would probably be best.

Yeah I found some refs to an Adelaide Amiga group too but the site hadn't been updated In years from what I could tell.

Amusingly enuf I used to work for Adam Internet as their Customer Delivery manager and that company was born out of a bbs for the ADelaide AMiga user group. :D

Somewhere close to the city would certainly be the most central location for all, initially we could get the ball rolling by meeting at a pub like the Tap inn over some snitzel's and beer and throw around some ideas for the location of an actual user group meet?

As I write this I am looking at the river (8 acres absolute river frontage:) or should I go and do some work in the shed, go fishing or open up my newly acquired A2000 and see what goodies are inside.

So jealous right now as I'm standing at a railway station waiting for a train with 0 motivation and too much work I know I need to do when I arrive at the office! :(
