SimCity 2000 - Amiga or Macintosh ?
« on: March 23, 2012, 07:20:56 AM »
I really got into SimCity 2000 again. I am currently playing the Amiga AGA version on my A1200 and it runs decently enough.

I have Shape Shifter installed and MacOS runs decent too but I did not try SimCity 2000 on it yet.

My question, which version will run nicer on my Amiga with my spec ? The AGA version or the Macintosh version (Via emulation) ?

The MAC Shapeshifter version is better on my setup (A1260 AGA 192MB RAM). However, the MAC often crashes after a long moment playing and progress is lost.

Would I get kicked in the nuts if I say I played the windows version?

I do enjoy the Amiga sim city games though.

Disabling CyberPatcher before running ShapeShifter seems to have cured most lockups for me. Played Warcraft 2 on "Mac" for two hours straight and no hangs :).

If you have a real Mac, the Boxer App is pretty astonishing.

Run it and it virtualizes DOS and Sounblaster and Super fast SVGA.

Drag and drop game installer and it just runs, I am still impressed with it each time I use it.

I can't try SimCity 2000 or anything on my emulated Mac because whenever i try and get stuff onto the "mac" via CF or CD it won't run.

It will have a "PC" icon. I even tried to get Stuffit version 4 but it won't run and says something about PC Exchange :(

Mac version wins :)

It's even better with RTG but if you can use 640x480x256 with your FF/SD that would be awesome using one of the Mac Video Drivers.

Old mac files are not to be downloaded on a PC because of some odd file attributes that go banana.

Downloading on the Amiga is fine with Ibrowse.
Then i use the Mac-Handler stuff from the Shapeshifter package to mount my MAC hardfile and copy the file there directly, and everything is just fine.

If they are compressed on the Mac (BinHex or SIT), you should be good.
The usual problem is the "resource fork" on the old MACs, that the PC doesn't support.

As long as it's compressed originally, then you should be able to transfer it via a PC, then to the Amiga, then to the emulated Mac.
Then you need to decompress it in your emulated Mac.  (or BinHex, which isn't really compression, but..)

Amiga 1200 w/ ACA1230/28 - 4G CF, MAS Player, ext floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 500 w/ 2M CHIP and 8M FAST RAM, DCTV, AEHD floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 1000 w/ 4M FAST RAM, DUAL CF hard drives, external floppy.

There is a complicated method i have used successfully.

Look for a PC tool called HFV Explorer. With this tool you will be able to include MAC files inside a MAC hardfile of any size, respecting the files attributes, the so-called forks. Then transfer the hsv hardfile to your amiga and use it as secondary hardfile (fortunately Shapeshifter can use two) and transfer the needed files.
