Shapeshifter3.11 + OS8.1 + Apollo4060 = fail?!

Very strange problem here ...

My setup works perfect, but "only" OS8.1 fails.
All other OSes from 7.1 up to 8.0 are working.

Setup:
ShapeShifter 3.11
MacOS 8.0
Quadra900 ROM-File
A4000 + Apollo4060 128MB / 68060 rev.6

From my memories, OS8.1 worked fine on my MKII060 (years ago ...).

Is this problem known?
Any workarounds or hints?

osx 8.1 doesnt work shapeshifter can go up to 8.0 its running here fine on my a4000 and a1200 with rtg and cd-rom supported.

On a 060 the 060 -specific caches are best to switch off for instance with http://main.aminet.net/pub/aminet/util/wb/SystemPrefs.lha ; ss docs say that 8.1 should work. I never got past 7.6.1.

8.1 does work on fusion.

Shapeshifter works with 8.1 on a CS II 68060.

You need to install 8.0 "for any mac" first.  Also there was a "setfpuexceptions off" command that i had to have in my startup-sequence.

8.1 does work but it is significantly slower than 8.0, which is much slower than 7.6 and slower still than 7.5.5.  There is a 7.5.5 out there skinned to look like 8.  I used that. It flies on a 68060, and really you're not missing much functionality:  I think most stuff that ran on 68k 8 ran on 68k 7.5.5.

but not ss3.11 ... its running under fusion3.2

i still have to check ss3.12 and basiliskii

MacOS definitely does not support superscalar mode in the 68060.
