I have an account with Virginmedia and use Yam so I might be able to help.
Do you use irc at all?
If you do, I am logged on now and might be able to talk you through the correct settings.

"SMTP.virginmedia" looks like it's incorrect.  I'm guessing it should be smtp.virginmedia.com (but I can't be sure of this as I don't use their smtp servers).  They may also have some sort of authentication enabled.

Indeed. We've gone over all other setting with him in irc.
He's missing ".com" in his setting.
