When i see him, Bill Gates looks more like a whealthy but simple man than a guy living in luxury.
Even though, i do admire the guy for all that he is doing through the Gates Fundation.
I remember the time when computer user thought that it was cool to criticize Microsoft, but now i think this is definitly childish to do so. After all, i guess a large number of people here is using either Windows XP or Windows 7 to browse amiga.org.
10 Classic Amiga Computers so far: I have too many computers!!

Bollocks Franko man! He has given away much more than he could've written off against tax. 28 billions he's given away so far! The mind boggles.

It's not a matter of how much he's given away so far, that doesn't make him some kind of guy to be admired when he and others like him have trampled over so many other people to get where they are today... ;)

Like I said before he has trodden over many people on his way to the top (not to mention the use of cheap foreign labour, to make his products)... ;)

There are far more worthy people in this world who personally do charity work in the poorest countries of the world and far more "normal" individuals all over the planet who's financial donations are the backbone of financing charity work worldwide... ;)

Why not talk about these more deserving people instead and not make Bill Gates look like the saviour of all things wrong with this planet... ;)

Like it or not, Gates Foundation is an *incredibly* important donor for international development and relief work. Things would be very different - worse - without them in the game.

Again you are giving him far more credit than he deserves, in 2009 in the US only a total of 13% of all money donated to charity came from ALL the US based "foundations" including his... ;)

Worldwide the VAST majority of money donated to charities comes from the average person in the street. the figures are all there for you to google and see for yourself... :)

So I've no idea why folk here are trying to make this guy out to be something special when it's really Joe Public (including yourself if you donate) who should be getting the acknowledgments and credit and not all this arse licking and brown nosing of just one guy who donates a tiny drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things...

We Muslims are required to give a minimum of 2.5% of our total wealth to charity.  2.5% of 1.5 Billion people's dosh is a lot of money! :)

Big business is never pretty.  Bigger businesses shut smaller businesses down every day.  Bill Gates and Microsoft were in business to make money, they succeeded, and Microsoft continues to succeed.

Seriously, though, giving billions of dollars to charity is pretty serious.

Oh, and I like Windows.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug
Alienware M14x i7 laptop running AmigaForever

10s of billions! The guy is a legend!

Being Scottish, Franko can't see any benefits of giving money away.  It's not his fault ;)

Still a small drop in ocean in comparison to total the public gives... ;)

Being Scottish has nothing to do with it nor is the fact that all my money is on an elastic band... :)

I'd like to think he is a changed man.

Microsoft did many many illegal, immoral and underhanded things under his supervision.  the biggest problem is that it set the trend for many other business people.  I had a long talk-argument with one of my bosses who swears by the "Microsoft" plan and said, "What Bill Gates did was fine.  He didn't get caught because there were no laws governing it."

But now we see him in his later years, I'd like to hope, a changed man.  Giving back to the community and all that.

Does it excuse him for what he did?  No, but then again I'm not in any position to really judge him over it all anyway so I'll just leave it all to God...

Faith in man...

Do we really believe that we're all gonna be invited to their little utopia when our culture and way of life is not deemed useful or practical? They have already stated time and time again that they Are working toawards drastically reducing the "overpopulation problem".

Will we rebel? Heck no, we are too dependent and or addicted to the toys and resources they provide.

I really feel sorry for the optimist in other men's deeds, and for those who are cynical about about their own sovereign potential.

We really do 't need them

My sentiments, too.

Bill does more than give extraordinary amounts of money.  He remains involved with the issues he is trying to solve.  He monitors the money and directs it to continually ensure the greatest results.  I should invest my energies as well.

Remember the pie in the face incident?  I DL'ed it with enthusiasm when it first came out.  After watching it, I sort of felt sorry for Bill.

It's easy to vilify Bill & Microsoft (I have in the past) for the state of computing.  More and more, I hold the mindless consuming masses at least as responsible for the power big business wields in the world.
