Help identifying components on A500 board
« on: August 06, 2011, 09:32:02 PM »
Hello guys!
I recently found my old Amiga 500 (or parts of it at least) and decided to see if I could get it working again. I don't remember exactly why, but for some reason I took it apart when I was like 13 years old and it has been sitting in a plastic bag in my parents garage since then.

Did a visual inspection of the mainboard, the audio connectors are missing and a couple of the components next to them are damaged, I'm pretty sure I did this too back then I was young and stupid  Other than that I can't find any visible faults on the board.

Here are the components that needs changing:
E426 Looks a bit like a ceramic capacitor except it has three legs
E303 Same as above
FB882 Looks a bit like a long diode, a black cylindrical part with two legs

Here is a (extremely poor quality) picture of the components in question:

I have desoldered these three from the board and cleaned it up a bit.

Anyone know what these are, and what they are used for? Are any of them required to power up the board?

Thanks for any help.
MaggoT.

E = EMI filter - they're all the same type AFAIK; you can bridge them for testing but they should be replaced eventually
FB = ferrite bead - dito

Thanks for your reply. If I were to replace these with some modern day equivalents, are there any current/voltage ratings that needs to be matched? Any suggestions where to get these parts from?

Depends on where you live. My favourite electronics shop still has them stocked. I think the standard C= EMIs are 100 pF and for the ferrites just the size is worth noting.
