In the US, its between 2.5 and 3 times minimum wage, depending on what state you live in.

19 dollars puts it a bit above well paid customer service, but pretty low for a techy job

I don't know where you found the quote by persia above, as it does not show up in this thread on my computer, but I am surprised to read that the minimum wage in Australia is so high compared to the minimum wage in the USA.  I guess the wages need to be higher because the taxes are much higher in Australia to pay for more public services, such as public health care, but I did not expect the minimum wage in Australia to be over 2 times higher than the minimum wage here.  I wonder what the minimum wage is in other countries, like Canada, the UK, Germany, France and others?
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

In Canada it is between $8.75 and $10.25, depending on the province.

That's because it doesn't say what the hourly rate is... ;)

It merely says "compensation up to $19"... dunno if that's an Amercan or Aussie way of saying $19 oer hour...

The UK minimum wage currently ranges from £2.50 per hour ($4.10) to £5.93 per hour ($9.72) depending on age...

All I can say is I'm glad I don't have to work anymore... :)

In Scandinavia it's generally governed by collective bargaining, and there's no minumum wage, although an average pay for a Danish techie would be around 30-33 USD per hour.

Nice bit of exaggeration Ilwrath. I am sure it is very bad in some areas of Detroit (I was born in Pontiac, Michigan and still have relatives around the state of Michigan, some of them in, or very close to Detroit), but your description could easily mislead many that are unfamiliar with the city of Detroit to an inaccurate conception of the area.

Not really.  Large portions of commercial areas are great!  Detroit's theater / stadium district is awesome.  The Fox, The State (err Fillmore, now I guess it's called?), Comerica Park, Ford Field.  All stunningly beautiful.  Hart Plaza, Hockeytown, the Ren Cen...  People travel into Detroit for these things all the time.

Ah, but there's the rub, right?  People travel in....  Hardly anyone who has a choice lives in the City of Detroit.  Like I said, almost all the neighborhoods surrounding Detroit are fine.  And even a few neighborhoods like the west side up by East Dearborn or old north by Indian Village are still ok.  But they're a very small percent of the residential area of the original city.  The City of Detroit's population once topped 3 million people.  Now there's less than 800,000.  That's a LOT of empty residential land area.

And those are the areas where there are practically free houses...  But you don't want to live there.  You basically CAN'T live in those areas, for all the reasons I specified, plus many more I didn't bother to mention (like public schools that have the worst dropout rates in the country, public transportation that is largely useless when it shows up at all, etc.)

I could have gotten a house for basically nothing.  But I spent $80,000 on a house 15 miles away so I wouldn't have to put up with the headaches of the City of Detroit.  So did the other 4 million+ people who live in the greater Suburban Detroit area surrounding the city.

If you want to spin it to another thread, I can back up every claim I made with links to the Detroit News/Free Press articles about each problem.  It's not an unfair view.  A lot of Detroit's residential areas are F'd up.  Big time.

Inn Norway it's now minimum wage for all. But there are in some types of jobbs.

For a builder the minimum wage is

Unskilled
143 Nkr/h = 25.87 USD
1 year pratics
149 Nkr/h = 26.95 USD
Under 18 years old
96 Nkr/h = 17.36 USD

I'm a electrician and have 220 Nkr/h = 39.80 USD

Did anyone actually contact them about this job? I would have called myself if I could use telephones, but I'm deaf and live in Australia so it wasn't practical for me to enquire and find out. But I'm sure out of all the other people who read the ad on this forum, someone would have taken a chance and given them a call to find out more? I'm very curious what job requires Amiga technicians in the present day.

I did manage to get a response from the company. It was send from a personal E-Mail address and it was from a guy named Peter. I had send several E-Mails asking to do a tour of their company and take pictures. It was not allowed. I do not know where they are located. I would have loved to visited the company.
He did answer my question about if they were working with Commodore USA; they don't. All my other questions were neglected.
He did write that they had hired people locally but it looked like a standard E-Mail message that probably everyone else also had gotten. Thanking me for applying - but I didn't apply, just curious about the place. LOL

There is no minimum wage in Germany (but very very low wages can still be quallenged legally as unethical, if they are much lower than whats commonly paid for such a job).

19$ AUS might sound much, but it's the buying power that really counts....

Also the 6.??$ minimum wage in the US would be like 4Euro at current exchange rates or in other words a single person working fulltime for that money would still get additional welfare .... Well I've also seen that Morgan Sperlock epidsode where and his GF tried to live for 1 months on such minimum wage jobs and it surely didn't look like a lot of fun...

Bought those Detroit neighbourhoods, didn't the town loos about half it's population in the last 40 years ? No suprise areas are given up by the authorities just like in some small and middle sized town in eastern Germany (only here they prefer to demolish or downsize big housing projects to adapt). There is no point in trying to live in such a neighbourhood....
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

It true that prices are much cheaper in America, we're talking about foregoing our annual holiday in Vietnam (beautiful country, nice beaches) and taking a trip to America instead.  America is not quite as cheap as Vietnam but a hell of a lot cheaper than Cairns or most of the tourist spots in this country.

Surprising that no one here has actually heard of a company like this. The Amiga world is way too small to have someone hiring Amiga Technicians and not to be known by somebody.  I suspect the ad was a scam...
