AmigaKit: Is Subway supported?
I've tried a couple flash drives and nothing happens when I plug them in.
There's not much in the USB prefs, other than some logging info. USBInspector shows nothing.

No USB would be a deal breaker for me using OS4.

It should work with Poseidon, but not the default OS4 USB stack.

Thanks, I'll give Poseidon a try. Just the standard 3.x version right? Do I need to disable the OS4 stack or anything first?

You don't have to, but you could comment out the USBctrl starting from startup-sequence and comment out USB modules in the Kicklayout.  But it isn't necessary.

@NearlyRight

I have checked our Support Ticket system and cannot find any correspondance from you on the 18th May.

I am answering legitimate Technical questions in post 1 of this thread because it is difficult to read genuine Support questions/answers here at the moment.

This thread is supposed to be about helping people with OS 4.1 Classic. Answering trade-in questions is going off-topic, however answer is: Hyperion have not provided any Upgrade licences to us- only full licences.

@CSixx

Poseidon/Subway will work- I am answering your questions collectively in  post 1 of this thread

I realise I'm usually the first to wander off-topic in any given thread but as the OP is attempting to give technical support here, in a rare moment of moderation seriousness, I'm going to have to ask that we all stick to topic. Any further off-topic posts will be moved or removed as appropriate.

Serious questions/responses only, please.

The existing off-topic discussion has been moved here: http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57857

OK.

Got OS 4.1 Classic from AmigaKit (thank you) and the install was relatively painless with one exception - my Deneb.

I looked at some instructions here - http://www.hd-zone.com/2011/06/optimizing-poseidon-for-amigaos-4-1-classic/ and they say installing Poseidon 4.4 is straightforward and I can accept the defaults and have it start automatically.

Trouble is during the install I elect to start it automatically whereupon the installer generates a Grim Reaper exception. Tried three times and each time the result was the same. Tried again by saying 'no - don't start by default' and the installer went through fine.

Rebooted the Amiga - all OK so far. Installed Trident and got that to come up and added the Deneb manually. Mouse was detected (USB wireless) and it all started to work. Rebooted again and got a Poseidon error message at bootup but my mouse was working still. Attempting to start the Trident GUI also throws an exception now so I can't actually configure it - but my mouse is working.

System is as follows:

4000 with a Mediator 4000Di w/Radeon 9250 from Elbox
CyberStorm PPC 233MHz / 128MB RAM
Realtek RTL8139 NIC (works in 3.9, sadly not supported in 4.1)
Deneb
Indivision AGA
16GB CF card for HDD

and that's all..quite a basic system in terms of addon cards (limited by space :) )

Any help would be appreciated if you know what could be causing the problem. Can provide more specific error messages if required but the Miggie isn't with me as I'm writing this.

Thanks!

I have the exact same config pretty much, can you post more details on the error message? Is there a crashlog?  Make sure you are using the denebpio driver in the Trident prefs.

No worries. I'll get the exact text of the Grim Reaper and post it here.

Where might I find the crash log? (sorry, not up to speed on this stuff sometimes)

When the Grim Reaper comes up there is an option to save the crashlog.

Attached a screenshot of the Grim Reaper and the associated dump file.

Steps I performed are:

1. Install a fresh OS 4.1 (this takes a few installs to actually get a bootable install - 4/5 installs result in a system that hangs on the 4.1 Classic boot logo...waiting 5 minutes or so does nothing)

One I got a system again that would boot -

2. Installed Poseidon 4.4

3. Crash when electing to autostart the USB

And that's all I did. Nothing more. I may be doing something wrong or have something misconfigured not sure...only thing odd I could see was it crashed doing something with a Subway (driver??) in a 4000  Only other thing that may be of interest is that my clock isn't set in the 4000..it's 1978 where it lives :p

Any insight appreciated

Thank you sir!

If you have a Deneb USB, I would move the SubwayUSB driver out of the DEVS:USBHardware drawer, then reboot your Amiga.

During the Poseidon 4.4 Install, you can specify to not install any Subway files.

Yes, as AmigaKit says, delete the subway hardware driver in devs:usbhardware.

Also make sure it's not in your Deneb's flashrom - only the PIO and DMA Deneb drivers should be there (DMA if you are using it under 3.x as well, but it won't hurt OS4.1 if it's present).  It appears the Subway driver does, though.

I can add that to my posting...when my site is back up :-/
