Simple Question Really... (I think...)
« on: May 09, 2011, 02:16:53 AM »
Simple question really... :)

Having only been on the net for less than a year and visited many computer related forums, I can safely say that for some reason it only seems to be the Amiga forums and sites that arouse such passions and feelings when it comes to talking about a computer... :)

Just wondering if anyone has a theory or indeed the answer as to why the Amiga invokes such feelings & passions in folks when none of the other platforms seem to have the ability to do so... :)

simple...People fight for what they believe in! the community never gave up on the Amiga after all the blunders that happened after Commodoe went belly up.

So why's it called ZCARS !!!

Think we've strayed of the topic already, it was meant to be about computer forums/sites... :)

Ah well why break with tradition round these parts... :)

Because, aside of Haiku/BeOS, there's just nothing out there like it!
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

I think it has a lot to do with the level of technical expertise for one as well as the sheer amount of accumulated knowledge among those who have been with the Amiga for years. Add to this the emotion that so many of us have for what was a golden age in computing and you have a volatile recipe for strong opinion that gets fuelled up in an environment of a split market (red camp, blue camp etc.).
I think that's about it.

Either that or it's all Franko's fault.
Falling into a dark and red rage.

Not even close to the fury Atari 8-bit computer lovers spew out for nearly 500 pages as soon as you compare it to the C64 mate :roflmao:

Just google A8 vs C64 on the atariage.com website.

I think the reason Amiga users are so passionate about this computer is because the love they have had for it was never returned.

Let me explain. We can all agree that the Amiga is dead. Yes, yes, I know of the projects out there that are making cool things like the Minimig and the Natami, but there is no way any of these projects can bring the Amiga back into contention with Windows of Mac.

So all this passion and love for this amazing machine was driven away because the people who could have helped keep it alive, didn't. So now we have nothing but memories and unfulfilled desires to live off of.

This makes for some cantankerous people! Passionate, creative, definitely opinionated but bruised, hurt, and left stranded with only what could have been.

I'd say people who still haunt this page does so out of memories of better times; times when the Amiga was a power to behold.

This is my limited view and may only apply to me. I was a Hardware tech for an Amiga shop and hate to say that we only survived because we also did PCs. it was a good life, I loved working with (most of) the customers, the User Groups were second to none and there was soooo much creativity in so many different fields. Face it, The Amiga was the computer not just for everyone, but for ANYONE! See, I can be passionate too!

So! When people start messing with someone's remembrance of such a personal thing, they get passionate! That’s why things like this new Commodore or any other “thing” that calls itself Amiga trips off emotions. And what will set a member off is different for each person. It might be one, some or none!

Me, I’m really pushing for the Natami, hope for the best for the Minimig and don’t really see anything cool about the C= of America “recase” of a PC. The X1000… Still out to lunch on that one.

There, I kept it short... ;)
AMIGA: (NOUN) THE FIRST COMPUTER THAT BRIDGED THE GAP BETWEEN HUMANITY AND TECHNOLOGY.

"Because it should have been the future, but somehow was'nt."

+1. Apparently, when Apple first saw the Amiga they thought they were finished, but then C= screwed up by not knowing how to market the Amiga. C= had the world at their feet but just kicked it away.

There are STILL things the miggy does better than the PC even after all these years, & the whole Amiga experience is so 'right'. IMHO, that's why we're so passionate about it.

Some nice & very true answers there but methinks the question should really have been in light of things these days... :)

Why does a Fake C64 made by the Fake Commodore arouse such passion in Amiga users these days... :D

Marketing wasn't the biggest problem. They lost momentum because they sat back watching sales come in.

Basically management didn't know how to run a technology company.
They got lucky when they bought MOS & Amiga, they were successful until they tried to control them.

I dunno, the Mac forums are pretty much the same really.  Especially when the Mac and PC fanboys go at each other.  I guess those who use alternative platforms like the Mac or Amiga do so because we love the machine/os, PC users generally just use them as commodity devices.
