Anyway, Vietnam is a magical place.  You have to realise that Adults 35 and younger were born after the war and that you have to be almost 40 to actually remember it at all, which means that 2/3s of the population doesn't remember it.  I think they've done well to preserve it as sort of a patriotic moment but not dwell on it.

Sunrise Beach as a tourist destination full of hotels is a far better legacy than it's old name of China Beach and it connotations of destruction.  The ability to move on is a wonderful thing.  It's a bit like (South) Korea.  Remember the past but don't dwell on it.  Live in the present.

The food is great, the people friendly, the beaches good.  I remember wandering the streets of the tourist capital Da Nang late into the night and never having any fear of crime.  Vietnam is a country that has a bright future.

Don't take this the wrong way Persia I'm not having a go at you, it's more a sad disbelief of how bad the education system and general lack of knowledge in some younger folk seems to be these days... :)

I was only a toddler when the Vietnam war was taking place and we were never taught about it in school, for me it is like most things in life you learn about them as you grow up, whether it be from TV, books, newspapers or just talking with folk in general... :)

But to say because folk are under a certain age is an excuse for not knowing about such important things that are part of history and have indeed played a major part in shaping today world is just wrong... :(

I wasn't born (believe it or not) when World War 1 or 2 took place, nor when convicts and children were shipped off to Australia just because they were orphans and considered undesirables by society, nor was I around when dinosaurs roamed the earth... :)

Point is, using age as an excuse for a lack of general knowledge about life and the history of this world is a sad reflection on society today (young and old)... :(

Looking to the future without a knowledge of the past is one sure way of guaranteeing history repeating itself again and then the future doesn't look so bright... ;)

Anyway, lessons are over for today and sorry for sounding like a miserable old fart, guess it must be my age or something... :)

@Franko

What I meant is that it is something that they remember as a crucial point in their history but it doesn't dominate discussion or public thought.  It's a bit like Anzac Day.  I've been to Gallipoli and was moved to tears.  None of my ancestors/relatives fought there, well possibly one of the Persian ones but they were on the wrong side if they did. but none the less it's a part of my history as an Aussie.  But do I think of Gallipoli every day?  No, of course not.  It's the same with Vietnam and the War of Liberation.  It's a single point of definition for modern Vietnam, but most days they have too much other stuff to do than to dwell on it.  Vietnam is very much a country that lives in the present, that's what makes it such an interesting place.

So.. are these IContain Protected Amiga products going to contain the AAA chipset?

No, but I have it on authority that they will operate entirely on AAA batteries, which is close enough. Don´t you think?

I really do like the phone.  But I suspect that the price will be double what it normally is.  That's pretty standard with rtos...

For $15 bucks I'll print you an "AMEEEGA" decal for your Android phones, as well as mail you a 6 pack of cheap Canadian beer.

Vodafone owes me a phone in a few months.  I'm waiting to see what the iPhone 5 looks like.

Valium, Prozac, Aderall, Lithium….the list goes on and on…..and for  those of you who seem to be so consumed and concerned about the recent  announcements regarding iContain and their Amiga branded products, I  suggest you contact a medical professional, and get on board with a  prescription of your choice.

Our license agreement with Amiga Inc. is an exclusive worldwide  trademark license for All-in One keyboard computers, and a non exclusive  license for other form factors, accessories, software and peripherals,  all of which will be produced and distributed by Commodore USA, LLC.

I welcome the recent announcement by iContain of their trademark license  agreement with Amiga Inc. and encourage everyone who has an interest in  seeing the Amiga brand return to the forefront of consumer electronics  and personal computing, to join us.

Although I am not personally familiar with the principals of iContain, I  did speak with Bill McEwen earlier this week, and feel confidant that  this new licensee will bring much to the table, and can prove very  beneficial to the overall success of the Amiga brand, and it’s vibrant  rebirth. The RTO (Rent to Own) market is the target of this venture, and  by developing mainstream consumer electronics under the Amiga banner  can only further all our efforts as well. There can be joint marketing,   production, manufacturing economies of scale and other positive results  that are now possible. It is a bit too early in the game to forecast  where this will go, but I do look forward to opening a dialog with  iContain, and explore all the possibilities that may exist….now, and in  the future.

Congratulations, iContain…and welcome to the exciting world of Amiga!

Like many, having spent a not so small fortune on Amiga & Commodore products over the decades I reckon we should all slap the Amiga name or Commodore logos on anything we use or sell new or second hand... :)

(we bought em, we own em... :))

Sod IP/ Licence Agreements/ Copyright and all that other legal mumbo jumbo that means naff all when it comes to the Amiga or Commodore... :)

Sod all those poxy companies that have robbed us all over the years and kept the Amiga from being developed or even kept alive because of their pathetic court cases and closed door dealings, that have done nothing but leave the Amiga in limbo... :)

Sod the feckin lot of em... :)

I'm off now to make a fresh batch of genuine Amiga bagles and bottle some genuine Amiga tap water to sell at the car boot sale today... :)

Beneficial to the pockets of some people, but in fact it is just misusing the brand, decreasing it´s value and finally getting much less value from it than a company with the right products would have. IContain bougt a name to sell their stuff to a market. They don´t care about the legacy.

I am thoroughly convinced that Amiga Inc. is the worst of all the bad Amiga trademark holders.  It seems that McEwen is intent on destroying the name completely.  He obviously doesn't really care about Amiga.  I suppose that nothing can be done about this ongoing debacle.

EDIT: Can anything be done?  (I mean anything legal.)

I doubt it, apart from waiting for him to die or declare bankruptcy and snag the rights back.

I liked that so much, in the true tradition of all things Commodore & Amiga I've nicked it for use under my name here... :D
