That would be different -- a top-loading floppy drive.  Has it ever been done?  Would it pop out correctly given the gravitational force?

No such floppy in mine, but it has been done.  Popping out was no problem, generally the spring is more than strong enough to move the floppy up, but the head motors didn't like having to work against gravity very much apparently if the drive failure rate on these machines is any indication. It's quite a task to find one of these with a working floppy:
