CF cards inside Amigas
« on: December 04, 2010, 01:56:10 AM »
Need tips on setting up CF cards as drives in some of my Amigas.. Which cards work, formatting etc.  Is there a How To??.. Pic would be cool too.  Can these be used to transfer jpegs, or other files between Macs or PCs?

Thanks in advance.

Hey vlab guy

Yes CF cards will work nicely in amigas.. mostly a1200/4000. The best cards to get seem to be Sandisk. CF cards format just like a real Hd. I have a nice a1200 cf kit I can sell u with preformated hd if you want!Pm for details

Amiga 1200/030 50mhz, 64mb ram

Amiga 2000, 030 25mhz, 7mb ram, A2320,  SCSI2CD

Amiga 3000/030 25mhz, CF SCSI card

Amiga 4000/ 040 33mhz 274mb ram

I am using 2-kingston 32GB pro versions in my A4000 for about 3 years now and they work fine,i also have 2 of the regular kingston 4gb ,and those give me trouble. Transcend 2GB 80x cards work ok.sandisk work(beware of china fakes, theres tons on ebay that are fake!)

If you want to move files, using the pcmcia port(which you can hot plug),get a Cf to Pcmcia adapter and then a cf card.Install CFD.LHA from aminet and FAT95 . the pcmcia adapters are cheap.
If you put the card on the ide, then its not hot swappable(can't swap it out with the computer on)

um no A1200.. so no pcmcia slot..

But that being said just want to make sure I can get files from one puter to the other via CF card.

You can use a null-modem cable between the Amiga and the PC for transferring files ( works great ) OR you can install a network board in your Amiga. Hook the Amiga and PC to a router. Then use Flash FXP to log onto the Amiga. Your PC will be on the left side of the screen and your Amiga will be on the right side of the screen. You can then drag and drop files to either computer. You can also install a high-density disk drive in the Amiga. Format 1.44 MB disks on your PC, then stick those disks into your Amiga's high-density disk drive and copy the files to the disk. Then stick the disks back into your PC and burn to an ISSO 9660 CD-Rom. You can have all of your pictures on CDs (which your Amiga can use).  Macintosh computers can also read ISSO 9660 CD-Roms.

I had my 4Gb CF -card installed in A1200 with one little problem... I wasn't able to load large files without failure, until I was guided at amiga.org, to change my MaxTransfer rate (in HDToolBox -File System Characteristics) to 0x1fe00 value. That worked out wonders for my system!

Good luck.

Honestly it would be image/video files from Amiga to Mac and visa versa..
I don't own a windows machine.

This setup interests me.  Any pics to share would be so cool.  Also so does this mean you don't have a traditional HD in your machine?

Thanks
