Best OCS image viewer/slideshow utility?
« on: November 29, 2010, 08:07:28 PM »
I'm trying to get a decent A500 setup going and I'm currently looking for the best image viewer. I've heard that some allow for pseudo 24-bit images to be shown. So I tried HAM32k but couldn't get it working (and it was command-line based). I've heard good things about HAMlabpro but have been unable to find it.

Any thoughts?

I used Fastview on my A500 and it was quite decent. I think you'd better convert firstly the pictures you want to show (if you have a hard disk I think it's a good idea, otherwise you'll have to "enjoy" loading jpeg pictures). If you are using JPEGs then Fastview will be very nice because it loads as much pictures as it can in ram and saves you some time.

Yes, it seems FastView is the only option for a basic A500 setup: I thought about Visage, but it needs ECS and OS 3.0 at least (I think you probably have KS 1.2/1.3 or 2.04).
Cheers!

P.S. If JPEG images are not 4000x3000 it's not such a big hassle to wait for few seconds for the image to be displayed.  :)  ...a bit of patience (I remember...).

If you have KS2.04 you might check out PPShow: http://aminet.net/package/gfx/show/PPShow40

Have you tried Visage? It's the most impressive rendering for image files i have seen on amiga (but unfortunately, it's limited to the chip ram).
