Problem after installing Cyberstorm MKII
« on: November 08, 2010, 01:10:35 AM »
Hi,

I've posted this on Amibay as well, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction:

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can put me out of my misery...

I recently bought a CSMKII 060 50mhz which I have tried to install today...

I read the manuals so installed the libraries first, then took the A4000D apart, removed the old cpu board and set the jumpers to 'INT' (again as per the manual..)

I then installed the CSMKII, put the miggy back together and that's when the fun started!

When booting, it starts going through the startup-sequence and then I get a reboot error telling me that C:Assign has failed... (sometimes it says C:LIST fails).

I booted with no startup-sequence and just under setpatch I put another line in to disable the datacache (CPU NODATACACHE)..

Miggy boots fine, but really no gain over my previous cpu board without the data cache...

So... I open up a shell and type in CPU DATACACHE... lo and behold, the fabric of the universe isn't torn asunder and the miggy is still running, I can even run DPAINT, DOPUS... but... I try to run Easynet which in turn tries to run AmiTCP and bang! Another reboot error telling me that AmiTCP has failed ( this error alternates with C:Mount has failed)

So... after reading a post by Zetro who appeared to have a similar problem, I download MMULibs, install it, then all hell breaks loose!

Now my miggy just hangs at a pretty CyberGraphx splash screen ( which I've never seen before so it takes me by surprise)...

I painstakingly reverse all the changes made by MMULibs and now I'm back at square one...

Before I revert back to the WarpEngine, can one of you kind souls please offer some suggestions ?

The setup is:

A4000D
DENEB
Cybervision 64 4mb
Buddha
Indivision 4000
CSMKII 060 50mhz 128mb

Kick 3.1 & WB 3.1 PFS3

Cheers,
Marc

Did you get the small 68040.library "dummy" library installed? SetPatch needs the "dummy" 68040.library prior to the SetPatch included in AmigaOS 3.9 which loaded the 68060.library directly. The 68040.library "dummy" library should be about 748 bytes and the real 68040.library should become 68040new.library. Also, make sure that SetPatch is in your S:Startup-Sequence.

Hi,

I've got the 68040.library (dummy) and the 68040new.library + 68060.library in LIBS:

I've also got Setpatch in the startup-sequence....

If I boot with SETPACH NOCACHE is stratup-sequence, then put CPU DATACACHE in my user-startup all is fine and it boots but as soon as I try a dos command eg "showconfig" I get an unrecoverable error....

Wow, no one else has chimed in with ideas by now. I don't have many suggestions left myself but here goes...

1) Remove all programs from S:user-startup and WBstartup.
2) Try different ram modules, clean contacts and reseat the accellerator. If the Amiga crashes when it's just sitting idle then this is the likely problem.
3) Check HD settings. Accessing files in C: can access the HD and that is when you say your Amiga crashes. If your accellerator runs for hours without accessing the HD but crashes when you are accessing the HD, then this is probably your problem. List your HD setup in that case.

Agreed, sounds very much like a CPU library error.
The libraries I use with my Cyberstorm mk2 060 are here, which work well.  Just extract the archive and copy the contents to LIBS:

Thanks for the libraries Anthony, they are actually different versions to what I had so I've installed yours...

Unfortunately still have the same problem even after installing your libraries... So I did a re-install of 3.1 but still with the same problem...

Matthey, I will do as you say and try to clean all the contacts and replace the memory modules, if that fails then I will try a fresh install of os3.5 and if that fails I'll just scream:)

(I have an 80g HD running PFS3 through the Buddha, I've checked the Maxtransfer etc. for all partitions and they seem fine)

The system was running fine with the WarpEngine so I have to assume that it's either the way I have the libraries set up / Setpatch or the memory as you say...

Thanks guys for your help!

UPDATE 11/11/10

I will keep this thread as a diary of the A4000's attempt to frustrate me.

This is becoming a nightmare.

I thought I'd switch it on before doing anything further and now getting a yellow boot screen...

I took it apart and cleaned all contacts, including the Zorro cards, repositioned them then put it back together and wham yellow boot screen again !

I've manged to somehow stop the yellow boot screen by fiddling with everything again but the guru error persists with DATACACHE ENABLED...

I then tried to boot with a fresh os3.5 install and now SetPatch fails!!!!

Arrrrrgh!!

I have a spare PSU, might change that tonight in case that's the problem...

Well Yellow screen is a memory problem.  Change out the motherboard fast ram simms first. If it fixes it, you are good.

If not, change out the memory on the MK2.

If not, it's possible it's bad chip memory, so change out that, too.
