Who's still drinking the Kool-Aid?
« on: October 15, 2010, 10:42:39 AM »
There are a handful of members on here who live the classic nerd existence of being trapped in the basement completely detached from anything other than what their Amiga feeds them.
I am probably not talking about you so don't worry.
If someone uses an Amiga as their main system that is great, but do they only do it because in reality they are a technophobe? The digital equivalent of just descended from the trees and discovering rocks and sticks to throw.
I just got myself an SSD and continue to be impressed by technology in general. A zealot can ruin any hobby for you, on other forums I can't stand rabid Windows 7 pushers... so take it easy, if you are nuts consider medication.

I have a linux box running ubuntu 10.10 as my "main" computer for playing a few games and general internet crap.

I think I spend as much time on my amiga, mostly playing old games. Still working on getting it set up so I can try and go "amiga only" for a while, as an experiment.

Tools are tools. Do whatever is fun. Say no to windows

Being neither a nerd or having a basement, then what about me !!!

My Amiga is my main system, always has been always will be... :)

I haven't got technophobia either, got a house crammed full of techno gadgets, just that none of them happen to be a PC or mobile phone (just not for me those things... :) ).

The local council & police don't allow us to to live in the trees anymore (not since that stick took out an old ladies eye...) or throw rocks or sticks as it's against the health & safety regulatiions... :(

I'm more than happy with the Amiga & if that's ruining your hobby then, sorry... (but you shouldn't let a zealot ruin anything for you, just don't listen to them in the vain hope that they will go away...) :(

I could send you some of my medication as it doesn't seem to work for me anymore (in fact it seems to have the opposite effect on me these days... :) )

(By the way, did you know, Salmon live in trees & eat pencils... :) )

(PS: What's Kool-Aid, sounds good... :) )

I've gone with kubuntu 10.04LTS for my laptop - it offered superior support for the graphics chip over Elive 2.0.

Tbh given how effective it is, I doubt I'll be moving OS again until this system gets retired.

Its nice to have an OS that "just works" again. I didn't realise how much I'd missed not having to putz about with config files etc to get everything to play nicely. I mean sure there is some fun to be had in doing that and knowing how to but, just to have it work from the start... Yeah, like I said: nice.

Tbh I suspect that next "Amiga" I run will likely be via UAE either on this system or if I get one of those gp2x handheld games consoles.

Tbh the reason I went with kde over gnome was that it was an easier transition for me over going from Enlightenment. I've used gnome in the past, it's ok.
