Last week, 10 bidders went after a not-fully-working A4000 .... $371.

I bought a working one on eBay over a year ago for about $250.

I bought a fully reworked A4000D in mint condition for 300 euro's from Mad Cat.
This board was fully repaired with new caps and simm banks by Amiga-Digital.
Now that's quite a deal.

Amiga isn't a dying interest, but some people do ask insane prices.
So yeah, maybe I am a bit of cheapskate, but I'm not gonna pay anything more over 700 euro's for any hardware.
I do want a bit of secuity to see what I actually get for such amounts.
Wishlist: A3500, A2500UX

Because when a more or less working 2.5mb A1000 complete sells on ebay for £44 you have to wonder why.

I would expect a working A1000 motherboard alone to be worth this much but obviously it isn't or perhaps ebay is a complete waste if time.

Here in the U.S. A1000 machines are plentiful, to say the least.  I have a beautiful A1000 - almost no yellow (keyboard looks brand new!) - with a 1080 and Starboard 2. Because I don't have the computer box, I'll be lucky to get $50.00 for the computer. That's just what they are bringing.

its funny, I only ever knew a single guy with an A1000 back in Denmark, but they seem to have been sold heavily in the states.

Finding 500+s and 600's on the other hand is tough going over here

"More or Less"....what are you on about. It is either working or not working.

Ahhh it was an NTSC machine so you needed a 110/240v adaptor for the UK (or just swap the PSU inside). And a couple of the keys on the keyboard didn't seem to respond I think.

A500s I can understand going cheap, they are very prevailent on any day you search for them on ebay UK...but in the UK you'll see one A1000 every 6 months or so. More in Europe though true. It's not just the A1000 I saw an A3000 25mhz model go pretty cheap last month and all it needed was a keyboard.

Expansion wise the only difference is ECS Agnus and 2mb/1mb chip ram. Other than that they are identical pretty much.

Maybe it's limited to OCS machines going for not much money then, I wouldn't sell a 2mb expansion for an A1000 in the EU for less then a 3 figure sum myself though. If it doesn't sell it's not like it will corrode or rot in my dry storage area.

A4000 always seem to be a premium, funny thing is the HD floppy drive is rarely 'tested' on those auctions in the UK.

Oh well good time for me to start hunting for a dead A1000 or A1010 for a donor FD drive and I always fancied an A3000 anyway so..... :)

Someone who can play a Wii really well and beat everybody else ?

The range on ePay is pretty extensive.  One A4000 for $300 and another for $800.  The same ratio seems to go for the other boxes as well. I've always used local pickup only as I know then you can get a pretty good deal.

To be honest I wasn't expecting to get much more than £44.

a) It's an A1000 - they go cheap. They're rare-ish over here but are OCS and almost completely non-expandable.
b) It's NTSC so you need a step-down transformer.
c) It's not complete - I don't have a spare mouse
d) It's not fully working - although it's only the space bar that I couldn't get to work. I reckon it'll start working again if you take the keyboard apart and clean it properly.

The main reason for selling it was because I wanted to free up the space, not for the money. It only cost me £50 a few years back and that included a monitor, an A500 and an A500 HDD, so I'm not complaining.

Out of interest, it sold to Portugal in the end.

I think it is a combination of factors.

Interesting that a supposed Amiga "enthusiast" couldn't be bothered carrying away a whole system for  a pittance at the car boot sale.

So it would appear interest must be sorely lacking.
There can also be family pressures:I just got a lot of C= goodies (someone else beat me to the Amigas) of a  fellow who was under wife's ORDERS to get rid of that old stuff-I want my room back!

I think those who want an Amiga HAVE an Amiga (or two,or fifteeen).!

The ham radio  classic radios also seem to be much lowered prices, the collectors must now have theirs so the demand is falling.

The current economy causes many to hesitate spending  on non-essentials ,especially if  a spouse will want to know WHY and HOW MUCH?
