Workbench 3.1 on an Amiga 3000
« on: June 19, 2010, 05:01:19 PM »
Trust me, I did Google the question first ;)

I'm wondering if I can install Workbench 3.1 on my Amiga 3000. If possible, using only software solution. I don't mind buying a ROM chip tough, but I couldn't find one for the Amiga 3000.

I'm kind of a noob, I've read some places that I could ReKick the 3.1 Kickstart, but not sure how to proceed.

If I can't buy the chips or install it in a software solution, how can I install back my Workbench 2.1 if I don't have the disks.
Amiga 500 - WB1.3 - 1mb
Amiga 1000 - WB1.3 - 512kb
Amiga 3000 - WB2.0 - 6mb

You can't have workbench 3.1 without installing the 3.1 ROM chips first. My A3000 has them, you just have to order them from Software Hut or Amigakit.

Obviously, if you don't have the workbench installation disks, you can't install it. You can get them from the above mentioned stores.

ReloKick just relocates kickstart onto faster 32bit accel ram if you have it.  You need the roms installed first..

What ROM do you have in your A3000 now? If you have Kickstart 1.4, you surely CAN boot 3.1 Kickstart off your HD. Of course, you'd need that Kickstart file first and that's tricky enough securing if you don't have the ROM (you need an A3000 specific Kickstart ROM image). Screw Google. Do a search here for this info, what to rename the HD and all that good stuff.

I have the 2.04 ROM, so can't boot up with a 3.1 ROM in my HD. Ahh well, I bought a pair of 3.1 EPROM :)
