Here is why we need a modern successful Amiga and new Indy game/software developers.

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/199322/fear_and_loathing_at_e3_microsoft_nintendo_sony.html

A few select companies aside, the gaming industry has approximately 9 ideas between them, and they keep stuffing crap on top of those 9 ideas.

Part of the problem is that a "big" title requires a massive budget with crazy ass 3D graphics, meaning nobody wants to take a chance on it (especially when even a massively acclaimed title will only sell in the 2-300 thousand range due to piracy) and they keep pushing out drivel.

If you want to see original and interesting games.. you are totally correct.. go to the indie game developers.

@ drHirudo

Better is a very relative term.

Fortunately, MorphOS is available as a demo version so anybody who is interested can test it free of cost and see if it fits someone's personal needs and preferences.

Go on. I am waiting for the time when there will be a reason to install MorphOS on my PowerBook G4. But to install it, the OS have to be better than MacOS X Tiger, or else, why bother?
You can always have a dual boot setup, then you can keep using mostly Mac OS X Tiger if you wish. You don't even have to pay anything if you just wish to play around with MorphOS 30 minutes at a time. That's already enough of a reason to install it, just to see what MorphOS can do.

PS. MorphOS is blazingly fast on the PowerBook G4.

North of 1500 pounds? Seriously?

I must say I have an interest in Amiga, remember them when I was younger yet didn't own one, four years ago bought a pile of them (1200, 600, 500 x 3) and enjoyed them for probably a year and then sold them, though I must say I was interested in this new computer. At 1500 pounds though (minimum) that is huge.
Amiga, Amiga, Where for art thou Amiga?

the thread on aw.net has some other comments from one of the involved people as well, mentioning that price isn't set in stone, as they are still trying to find where they can save some money.

But then, they are doing the 460 as well, so its not like this is the only amiga ever

Don't worry, MorphOS is advancing very well and will likely soon support even more affordable Mac hardware.

That would be interesting if MorphOS could actually be usefull for anything - time is running and wasting time on even more obsolete hardware is rather pointless.

Is it likely that MorphOS _ever_ moves to some other architecture?
Is it likely that MorphOS _ever_ matures into something more usable than a glorified emulator?

I am pretty sure the answer to both above is "no".

That could be said about the alternative too, no?

Its a sad day when the old Commodore roll outs look absolutely professional by comparison.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

At least you dont have to pay thousands to run your favorite emulator on fast hardware :-P

It has more point than wasting resources/effort on insanely expensive custom HW, though.

Also, most of the Mac HW we're adding support for is very similar to each other. Adding support for them doesn't take excessive resources.

I can think many things that are far more pointless. ;-)

Dead platform or not you can enjoy it at the present day, fast and cheap without overpriced hardware for fanboys, amiga is much cooler than this.

If you actually bothered to look at the pictures you would discover that it was hooked up with a standard PCI card.
I would also assume that drivers are not really optimized yet.
Hyperion/A-Eon also stated that parts of the OS was still running in debug mode since port is quite a bit from being finished yet.

I saw that and it's irrelevant. It took ages to refresh a drawer with some items in it. That ain't an issue with the video interface being PCI w/ SVGA. Blitting icons on a 286 with windows 3.1 would blow that mess out of the water. That machine is straight up running like a dog. Don't make excuses, that demonstration was pathetic. X11 with all it's insanity plus SVGA driver on a 700MHz pIII would put that to shame with gnome. First impressions.
