:)

It's an expensive game to play. I'm surprised that some of the kit out there is as cheap as it is given the low volume runs. 2 years ago I had a bunch of boards made and stuffed based on a design using an 8051 deritive that ended up costing 400 dollars a piece, took 6 months to develop and it wasn't anywhere near as complicated as an accel. 90% of the work I did was pure software.

Yes, I'm familiar with how expensive even simple things can get. An 8051 would be relatively simple, since you might not need to involve surface mounted components and could probably get buy with a board based on a single layer double sided copper clad (and etched) epoxy board.
I spent a few months working on a Freescale MPC8641D based motherboard, only to find that the level of complication and the number of layers required (not to mention the expense) made the prospect of financing a production run almost impossible.

Considering that there are new '60 accelerators available, its probably reasonable to state that the demand for an '060/PPC accelerator would likely be limited. If you want to use a PPC, a SAM440 or a Mac (depending on what OS you wanted to use) would be more practical.
I was just thinking of my own interests, but you're right, the idea is impractical.

This whole purchase hardware, tinker with it and resell on ebay is a phenomenon I see with Toy collectors. They'll buy some hard to find toy unbox it, tinker a bit... maybe photograph it and resell it on ebay.

I tried to explain this "malody" (ha ha ) to someone in 3rd world South America and they couldn't understand it. Then we want back to dancing and enjoying life!

Im from 3rd world South America...and i dont understand it either.
Could you please explain a little further your point?

Thanks in advance

All roads lead to FPGA's.
We all want the Holy Grail of the 060 speed.
I favor 030 reliabiliy and compatibility with Full AGA implementation with a VGA card core.

If I want Crazy speed i'll run an emulator.

The whole OS 4 thing would be cool if there was a GOOD software emulator as good as WinUAE. Oh that and actuall hardware.

or Amithlon... Oh yea... the developer of that was replused out of the market.

I dunno. I think it's just cheaper license OS3/ 3.9 and sell a linix based x86 system that boots a minimal linux and goes straing into amiga os.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha had this conversation on Buneos Aires...
Well with the crisis that hit there (for folks that don't know about hte subject google Argentine economic collapse) the person I spoke to said that such adoration of antiquated hardware and toys was a waste of time and money when there are much more important things.

I explaind  that some folks get drunk or do drugs and other folks collect old hardware or toys. If it makes them happy cool.

In my case Ive since sold off much of those things and just keep 1 plus main system a spare amiga. I no longer use Amigas in my work so I'm relegated to tinkering and games. I just boxed my A1200 tho.

So what's in your collection?
Your website link doesnt work.

Well, that explanation makes a lot of sense, specially if you spoke with somebody FROM Buenos Aires...

Usually they have a vision that is completely different that us, people who come from small cities and go to Buenos Aires to study/live.

Crisis? One crisis? :roflmao: We LIVE in permanent crisis!!! we are a country which cant live without some kind of crisis (not just economical, but political, social, you name it, we have it here)

I begun collecting mainly games when i was a teenager, had no $$$ to afford a machine other than a plain A500.

I know my website doesnt work...its always in a "coming soon" state, since i have no $$$ to pay what i owe to the web designer :)...but eventually, it will be up soon...
I also had a blog, but i get tired of...and didnt have enough time to actually update it...so there it is...hidden somewhere :)

I guess that if i had a chance of talking to that persons, we would end up fighting.... damn i already had a huge fight, and one of the main reasons we broke up, with my ex fiancee was, precisaly, my Amiga collection. She couldnt understand that i would spend "so much time with that stupid machines" rather than share more time with her...oh well..woman...

Anyway, back on topic...my collection??
Well...here it goes:

7 x A500
1 x A500+
4 x A1200
2 x A4000
1 x A3000
1 x A2000
1 x A1000
2 x CD32
1 x CDTV

Add to that: about 7.000 floppy disks waiting to be ADFed , around 100 Amiga related CDs, Amiga Format, Amiga Computing, Amiga User International, Amiga World, Amazing Amiga, and CU Amiga complete collections, many more Amiga mags (like Amiga Shopper and The One but not completed) about a dozen of accelerators / memory upgrades/ graphic cards, Catweasel, joysticks, GVP stuff...and many, many more...Vlab Motion, Toccata, Cyberstorm, Cyberstorm PPC, Cybervision, Blizzard 1230, 1240 1260, 2060, PPC, Picasso IV, Picasso II, Cybervision 3D, , Mediator, Elbox Power Tower..., pufff, i lost my memory, but i do have more than this...believe me...and i actually only use 10% of that due to lack of time..have all this stuff in a room which was "ready for the soon to come baby"

Sigh...wish i had the time to play around much more with all my precious stuff, that i got it with a lot of effort (remember, we have a very weak currency, so everything i buy...its very very expensive...)

So you can imagine, all stuff in drawers, boxes...all around the room...togheter with all my Commodore stuff and my small 8 bit/16 bit machines collection....

I begun around 1989/1990 buying all stuff from Amiga shops that were closing first, then , to all my friends who went PC/Mac, then eBay, then Amibay...and here i am...

Yep, try not to make me talk with your friend in Buenos Aires!!!!!! :roflmao:

Regards
Sebastian

Ahhh you gave up an Argentine Flesh and Blood amiga for the Amiga computer? You deserve a purple heart. You aree a true Amiga warrior.

Gotta love Argentine girls, despite whatever crisis they make sure their hair is done and they have at least one pair of jeans and nice clothes to go out.

If I'm ever back in BS I'd like to visit your Amiga collection. (the computers... not the women)

Ouch! Does anyone know if the circuit schematics for these are available? If people are willing to pay this much for them, then there is a possibility of making even a small run profitable.

Unfortunately schematics are not the whole story.  There are some programmable devices on these accelerators (CPLDs) for which you'd need the software.

Still, I don't really understand why DCE hold on to the information these days to be honest.  It's not like they're going to make any more money from holding on to it, and meanwhile our cards get rarer and rarer and prices get higher and higher.  Of course, they've nothing to gain from sharing the information with us either.  But if you had something in your possession that was not capable of making you any more money, and for which you had no further use, would you deny someone else the chance to get hold of it if they could make something of it? I don't think I would.  But then I'm an Engineer, and Engineers don't make good business men ;-)

Even setting aside new production runs, if we had all of the information we could at least repair a whole load more of the cards than we can now.

I have two BPPC cards, both worth a lot of money if working, but both suffering CPLD problems. I could replace the devices in no time, but it's futile unless I can program them.  Not good.

Phase 5 weren't the only people who made Amiga accelerators though. If the Cyberstorm designs can't be sourced, what about the other manufacturers?

I guess the other question is what are people looking for here? If I wanted to run OS4.x, I'd buy a SAM440. I'd like an '060 for the A4000, but I really don't need a PPC chip. What I would like from the CSPPC however, is the UltraSCSI interface.
