Catweasel MKIV problems
« on: January 10, 2010, 05:43:51 PM »
Hi: after a hdd crash, i had to reinstall all my OS (Windows XP)

I installed all Catweasel files like before the crash.
Everythig seems to be fine, all drivers installed properly, recognized under Device Manager on Windows, but im starting to have all kind of problems.

I have both ImageTools2.3 and 3.2 versiones, since some things im able to do with one version and not the other and viceversa. This issue i had it before, but i could live with it. Not big deal.

I was told about a CWConfigFix. Somebody sent me that. Ok. Everything looks normal. I can create ADF disks (had tried this 5 minutes ago. What it seems odd to me is that it doesnt put the .ADF format when it finishes converting the disk, so i have to do it manually or put the .adf at the end of the file im about to create. Cant remember if this was the same before my hdd crash)

But, and here is where im asking your help, I cant write a disk. No matter what i try, it keeps telling me, with every kind of floppy i insert (formatted, unformatted, DS,HD, etc) this message: "Error writing disk: media write protected Code c00000a2"

I have tried under both ImageTools version. Error is the same. Of course i dont have the floppy protected, and im stucked here.

I remember before this i could read/write, and everything was perfect (ok, after a while, since i had little issues but some fellows here and on other forum gladly helped me), so now, this message telling me that media is write protected is getting me real sad (and mad)

Cant find a clue of whats wrong, so please, if anybody here has the same Catweasel and has/had same trouble and fixed, plese let me know, so i can be sure if i did something wrong or what is happening.

The PC floppy drive is a Sony.

Thanks in advance
Sebastian

On a last attempt before throwing all my PC setup to the garbage can....i changed the PCI slot where the Catweasel was...powered on my PC...and...voila! Everything is working!! Both ImageTools are reading/writing ADF images....must be the most bizarre thing it happened to me in a long time....

So..problem solved!!!

Now, everybody looking for Catweasel advice??? ;)

I`ve had two of these!! sold them both.. over a two year period!  One of them worked ok for a few months... but the rest of the time... I had all sorts of problems... starting with blue screens.. and ending up with endless reboots untill I took the car out or uninstalled the sh1tty driver!!

Wish it worked :(

Im sorry that your overall experience wasnt good at all.
Before purchasing mine, i dig into many Amiga forums, read a lot, asked a lot of questions.
Finally, i decided to buy it. It was one of the best "Amiga" investments i did in many years.

I just installed both the latest and the prior to latest drivers, both ImageTool 2.3 and 3.2.
You may ask why? Well, i live in a very small flat, and since i become an Amiga user (1988) i have collected over 5.000 floppy disks of all kind. So you can imagine how much i was in need for space... Thank God...the Catweasel did a fantastic job (im still using the original Sony floppy fingers crossed) in allowing me to convert all those floppy to ADF (well, most of them. I still find floppys in boxes unopened spreaded all over my place)

Im still awaiting for another update, which could improve things a lot
Havent tried the C=64 side. I have around 7.000 Commodore disks (yes, believe me i can supply pics if you dont believe me :) ) and i have to do the same, but the biggest issue here is time...time for me to work, to devote to my girfriend, to my family, to my cat, to my Amigas...

The day should last at least 36 hours... :roflmao:

Hmm.. I wonder if the PCI slot died for some reason. I had an AGP slot die in a computer once. The video card was fine and the computer worked fine for years after I put a PCI gfx card in. IIRC I looked at the solder points and they were fine, so something else was going on.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

@red: hi Red!!! Well, i actually exchanged the Catweasel with my SCSI card...the SCSI HDD & the SCSI DVD-Rom are playing fine...so it must have been a case of messed up inside Win XP i gues...

Anyway, happy to see you here and my best wishes for you & your beloved for this 2010!!!
