If they have sometime to announce why not announce it instead of all this silliness.

This whole thing seems childish and annoying. Surely we have had enough of vapourware by now. I for one have lost a great deal of respect for Hyperion over their lack of forthrightness with the Amiga community.

Hi,

Maybe Xena is one of Gunnar's S-AGA FPGA's for having Legacy software run on a native screen.

I'd say they have a much better idea of marketing than Amiga Inc ever did.

Doing something unusual like this is good for getting the attention of the rest of the computing world, i.e. people are going to the website to see if they can solve the puzzle, and become interested, who otherwise wouldn't have bothered to look. Plus it just creates a buzz & anticipation. A lot of people have been registering on the various Amiga websites just so they can join in the discussions about it.

If it's really something big, they have to promote it in a big way, & I'm sure they will continue to promote it properly after the full announcement.  Every product has a release date; they may as well make some build-up for it! Sure, we've been waiting a long time, but there's non-amigans and ex-amigans who wouldn't have been paying attention until now.

Catweasle PCI card will give you your digital joystick ports.

Good point, assuming we have drivers... and I'm looking at the Catweasle in my Windows 7 beta PC that stopped working when I upgraded from XP...

(Well, I tell a lie, it does work when I boot in XP, but the only time I do that is to use the Catweasle which is very annoying).

@Darrin,

The drivers are being worked on. From what I undersand the latest ones for OS4 have Amiga floppy R/W working well.

I think the Puzzle nonsense... BUT...Although freakin' annoying it's good net publicity... heck I'd setup a twitter and facebook page and put folks on an easter egg hunt...

When the thing does finally ship, tehy'd be wise to send review copies to folks like Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Jim Lauderbach and other tech foks with podcasts and such. this will create more buzz... the free kind... The Amiga is so old now it's become retro cool again. Anything retro= Tech street cred and "coolness". Look at all the 8 bit fanatics out there...

Commodore were (rightly) lambasted for failing to market the Amiga or generate any real interest in it. At least this has generated some interest and without the usual flame wars. Although, I expect that'll start in earnest as soon as the actual specs are released :)

What Hyperion is doing right now is absolutely great advertisent. I just hope everybody will be able to buy the new Amiga. (It seems likely that many of us will be able to do so since most of us no longer need our dad to buy us an Amiga ;) ) still, I hope everyone on board will be able to afford it.

you're entitled to your opinion but please remember that Hyperion and Acube never contributed to the many vapourware products abound in Amiga land..they delivered when many others only made promises..so kudos to them I say !!! :-)

One point that must be addressed is software...

It's all very well and good to have shiny new hobbyist hardware, but there's not much point if it can't run anything other than a partially crippled browser and out of date WP and GFX apps...

Just my $0.02...

Mike.

I would change this statement to:

Although, I expect that'll start in earnest as soon as the actual prices are released

Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!
