Could you tell me which version of the IDEfix software you use exactly ? Is it this one: http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/IDEfix97 or this one: http://icomp.de/t/bin/eb_final.lha or a completely different one ? Could you try the eb_final version ?
I did. the version I was using was:
IDEfix 2.5
the version in the archive is
IDE-max 119.17
it did show the nag-requester,but after that the great blue/grey background and no more activity..
mind, the only thing I could install was idefix, all the other folders contained files I didnt need like atapi.device and buddha/catweasel rom files.
I have 2 questions for you:
1) when booting from the emergencydisk, there is a few blocks of data read, then the accessing stops for 5 seconds. is this normal?
2) also, why does cd0:emergency-boot/s/startup-sequence contain a lot of similar commands as in df0:s/startup-sequence? I mean things like setpatch, loadwb etc are in both files. is this normal?
You probably booted once with SetPatch active, then removed it from the disk and did a warm-reboot (Ctrl-A-A).
Oh, and you were right regarding a warm boot with the rom update loaded and no setpatch in df0:s/startup-sequence. that worked, os3.9 is loaded, icons are shown. but it complains about workbench.library not being version 45, then shows a big screen with the text NOTFALL-Start (right, emergency-boot in german) above, then some garbage, and then it reboots.
update: when I boot to my 'bad' OS3.9 install, then reboot from emergencydisk, and dont run setpatch or iprefs in either startup-sequence, os3.9 is now booted in a stable manner. but it cant load, for example, amidock, because it requires workbench.library version 45. Iprefs is the cause of the crashes, it seems!
so, some more questions that spring to mind:
3) could it be that I have a4000 roms in my a1200? they dont have workbench.library, right? they are v40.68
4) wasnt there something with iPrefs on ppc boards..?
