MorphOS wont boot-up?
« on: October 04, 2009, 03:40:14 PM »
Ok, new thread!

I have tried to install MorphOS several times but never succeeded, so ithought i should give it another try this week. I formated a hdd and made the partion bootable. I copied all the data from the cd-rom directly to the new partion (the installed filesystem is SFS 1.227 btw). When i rebooted the startup-sequence stopped and displayed "680x0.library is to old. You need version >46.2".

Fine, but the installed libraries (on MorphOS:) are
68060.library 46.7
68040new.library 46.5
68040.library 46.5
What the h**l is wrong?
The MorphOS cd i use, is the latest know (2006/06/06).

I have a BPPC 240Mhz and 060/50mhz, 128mb Ram and Bvision.

I think, and this is only a wild guess, that the 68060.library is in fact in the flashrom of the BPPC (scout will tell you for sure, have a look in the residents list). It could be that you need to upgrade the contents of the flashrom to the latest version.

It seems you don't have 680x0.library installed.

If you have it in libs: get bppcfix from http://powerup.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=13 to remove the 68060.library and ppc.library from (flash) memory.
Better use PPCLibEmu from the same site and the Mu680x0Libs (http://aminet.net/util/sys/Mu680x0Libs.lha) from Aminet, which has just been re-uploaded.

What reboot level have you set in the startup sequence?
Have you edited the "boot device = " (or similar) line to point to the correct partition for your MOS setup?
It's been quite a while since I played with MOSpup, but don't seem to remember having any great trouble setting it up, once I'd read the included instructions.
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

I have not edited the Startup-sequence anything, since i think the default should be fine. I have copied in 680x0.library and mmu.library without any success. The last time i tried to get Mospup to start, one year ago, i didn“t get this problem, this is new since i installed AOS.40.

Create a bootable partition and copy all the files from the CD to it. Now launch a text editor and read the instructions in partition:s/startup-sequence to tweak it to meet your needs.

I hate it when people say condescending crap like "google is your friend" or unhelpful crap like "rtfm". However, at least you now know where to start in terms of troubleshooting your MOspup installation. If you have any more problems there are plenty of people here to help. Good luck - MOS is fun once you get it going :-)

@KlingKlang

You wont be able to register MosPUP anyway so even if you manage to install it you will only be able to run it for 30 min so why bother? =)

Bummer; this means I won't be able to enjoy MorphOS, as I never got around to installing it succesfully. Was planning to give it a go later this year, but I guess that would just be a waste of time :-(
