Oh I see. Well it's probably a contraction of "rock and roll", which may be considered "hard" or "heavy" music, making it kind of analogous to a rock.
Oh, and also "rock" as a verb has another meaning, namely a way of moving. So that might be something to do with it.
Anyway it's the same thing with names. Why can people have the same name? If it was up to me it'd be custom to give a person a unique ID as name (well, together with a unique family ID).It's just that people don't want to live and think pure
