Office suite for A500+?
« on: July 01, 2009, 05:13:52 PM »
I have an A500+ (680000,  8MB FastRAM, 2MB ChipRAM) and I was wondering what was the best Office suite for this machine. What I understand by office suite is a writer/word, calc/excel, impress/powerpoint, etc.

Also back in the days I remeber I used to use DPaint. Is there any tool better then this for art work stuff?

Regards,

My oppinion: There is no better software on an A500+ than Deluxe Paint. Maybe you could argue which version (I loved II and III).

When it comes to dry office work the A500 is not the best choice. You can create fancy presentations in eg. AmigaVision or Scala. But spreadsheeds and wordprocessing ... that's a bit difficult. What do you want the Wordprocessor for? Maybe use Latex or a seaoned DTP-program? AmiWrite is the wordprocessor of my choice on that platform. Some people like Prowrite, there is a lot out there, but the functions usually don't rival MS Word in any way.

I have seen a couple of spreadsheets on the Amiga, but they usually don't live up to the potential the machine. Perhaps you don't really need a spreadsheet and are happy to create your tables with Superbase?

Well I will not actually make much use of them. However I was trying to create a complete Workbench Installation is it would have been back in 1992.

My brother used to have FinalWriter and WordsWorth. I do not know if the latter came with its own spreadsheet tool although I am sure he had one installed!

There are a tons of decent wordprocessors out there but TurboCalc5 is without a doubt the best spreadsheet program.   It imports/exports Excel files too.  If you're familiar with Excel then you'll have no problem with TurboCalc5.  It's tough to find a copy anymore though.  I found one on eBay a few weeks back for about $50 USD.   You can download a demo at:  http://aminet.net/biz/demo/TurboCalc5.lha

Turbocalc

Ferrellsl is right. I just had a look at the Turbocalc Demo and its much better than the cheap spreadsheets I saw before on Amiga. It even works on SAM with OS 4.1 and has an AREXX-Port. I am no expert in spreadsheets, but it looks powerful enough.

Now, if I hadn't already bought Apples "Numbers" ... :insane:

I used to use WordsWorth 2.0 ... but screen drawing was rather slow. And I think Turbocalc (or was there a Supercalc ? not sure)

If upstairs wasn't hit so badly by the heatwave here in the UK, I would go and check my floppy labels :-)
