Question about "GVP 1208 SCSI" for A1200
« on: June 12, 2009, 05:48:09 PM »
Does anybody know anything about this piece of equipment?  I bought a 1200 several months back and finally decided to crack the case open.  Inside I found this GVP 1208 Card but with no memory installed (can take up to 32MB).  It had a ribbon cable mounted to the outside of the case, I assume to connect an external scsi drive or SCSI cdrom.  Does anybody know anything else about this item?  Do you know if it is possible to connect an internal hard drive with this thing?  How much would somthing like this sell for on ebay?

1208 can only take 8Mbytes of RAM. Hence the name 1208

It conflicts with the PCMCIA with anything over 4Mbytes making network cards etc. unusable.

It only takes special 64-pin GVP SIMMS and so not populated it is not worth much.

Has an internal SCSI connector for 2.5" SCSI drives, however as it is non standard if the cable is not present it is worth even less.

£10-20

alexh, is it possible to use the external scsi to hook up a scsi cdrom?  Also, is this card autdetecting or do I need to install software?

I have this card. I expanded with 8 MB memory, SCSI kit and a 28 MHz FPU. The SCSI kit is a DMA controlled and you could connect a harddrive and boot from it.

It's an autobooting SCSI controller. You could contact Softhut to buy 4 MB SIMMs for your card.

The only thing is missing is a realtime clock on it.

Sure, or hard drive. (SCSI external, or even use an Acard 7720U SCSI->IDE)

As has already been said, this card has a ROM and is autobooting.

amiga1260, do you have an internal hard drive connected or an external hard drive connected to this card?

I only use an external SCSI hard disk. 2.5 " SCSI hard disk are very rare.

Do you have to use the special GVP 64 pin ram or could you use any generic equivalent memory?  I see the GVP simms are quite expensive.  THanks.

erm. just check the ram slot on your card ? if it's 64 pin, you have to buy pricey GVP stuff. if it's 72 pin, you can use standard EDO ram.
I believe in mt. Fuji

memory
two 64 pin SIMM sockets accept 8 MB RAM
supports only special 1 or 4 MB GVP SIMMs

says Amiga Resource.
