I think its better to start from scratch again.

People have mentioned errors arround BBoAH here and there, and I think many images are not so good.

If someone creates a new defacto BBoAH I think many people will want to submit new high quality pictures and in a Wiki it will be easier to update information.

WTF is this a new trend, making sites or complete web-projects to work 100% in Amiga browsers without CSS?  :-?

Last week I observed a similar project, a community aimed to work 100% in Amiga browsers. I have to agree fully here, spend your time better than to aim for 100% browser quality on 68k Amiga.

cv643d: with a wiki though ti guess the BBOAH might be a good starting point, and the replace images/fix information ?

I've got a feeling that opening up a new section with nothing in it wont encourage contributions. To be honest, we have close to 0 contributions to the exotica wiki from people other than the main developers. a few edits here and there, but not much more. Although I do realise we are niche, and that there are probably only 3 amiga users left, (including myself) :D

@cv643d

The BBoAH is nothing but a database with "improved" facts. A Wiki, to me, is something everyone can send "trash" to.

Every week I get ~ 10 to 15 (more or less ;-) ) emails with new pictures, info's or new hardware that has to be proved.

To me the compability to amiga browser's is absolutely necessary. I got win-machines at home, but love to surf with my old Amiga's.  :-)

I know that many others to so, too.

Btw: there must be 4 Amiga user's, I got a mail from Japan last week.

Regards

But what do you mean by compatible ? If you mean should it work/function, then yes. If you mean should look the same as it does on a modern browser, then I don't agree.

You have to view this form a marketing point of view. You want traffic, because you want updates. Off course no one is going to update information on your wiki if it is empty, so you need to write a lot of pages yourself in the beginning (why not rewrite text from BBoAH, yes I know but everone seems to rewrite others contents these days :-) ).

Take photos of your own hardware, your friends hardware, make a thread on all major Amiga forums. Try to think outside the box, why would people want to visit your wiki instead of BBoAH. Find things to improve, for example IMHO search on BBoAH sucks. There are many things you could improve on BBoAH.

Tell people in the Amiga community you want as much information, buzz, trivia, info, data, pictures of Amiga hardware as they can find. I am sure they are going to mail you quite a lot of the above. Put it in the Wiki yourself in the beginning. When you have a lot of pages written, then it is time to open it up to the community.

And now another thing is going to happen, you are going to get top-10 rankings for every major keyword for every major page of your site, so you are going to get lots of traffic from the search engines. It is not hard at all to get top-3 for specific keywords in Amiga hardware if you have done your SEO right (which I noticed last fall). If you get traffic from the Amiga community AND the search engines I promise you that you will see lots of updates.

Now that you get a lot of traffic, you can have some fun. Off course you can not earn money on this traffic because you host other peoples words and images, but you can always put links to your other pages (or just put one link to an Amiga Forever affiliate site) on the wiki so all in all your domain is going to get much more traffic and rise in the search engines.

Just a couple of ideas...    :-)

It doesn't always work though. I mean, I think we have a relatively popular site already, but people come, download what they are looking for and leave. It is hard to get contributions sometimes.

"What about something like building the BBOAH into the exotica wiki ? that way the information can be editable by all ? It is certainly something I would like to do, if you would give me"

no i'm against this b/c no everyone can convey information properly and verify results.  last thing you want is incorrect jumper settings info.

Novamann,
pls don't listen to others advice.
last thing i need is unreliable site, where jumper settings is not 100% sure, simply b/c anyone can edit the site.  you won't believe the # of dummies that think that know amiga hardware.
i like the fact that I can browse bboah on my amiga 2000/4000 :-D
i think we need to enhance the content & verify the information.  also 1 smaller photo is enough, the rest should be compressed as lha.  if someone wants full size photo they can download it.  (saves bandwidth and no need for contributions then).  any amigan should know how to use lha, if not then even winrar and other windoze compression soft can handle it (if not, then google). :-D
all in my humble opinion :-P

I don't see it being any worse than the current situation in regards to accuracy of information. The people who verify it are the other contributors and of course the wiki admins (on a smaller wiki such as this)

Please keep english as the default, at least for the .com domain. Shouldn't be that much work I think.

The wiki is also a good idea, provided that info from there make it back to the main site. But, please do try and do it in english instead of german.

The original amiga-hardware.com site was great. Lots of info, with a simple interface. Since you are now continuing from Ian's work, please try to keep it close to it's roots.

If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. I'm sure many people (including me - pm me if you'd like) can lend a hand.
Anyway is the only way

Hi,
back from work.

1. In my opinion it's better to have a "static" database with verified infos. Never been a friend of WIKI's, but there are surely many people with other interrests. The absolute point for me is: ALL BBoAH's (Wiki or database) MUST HAVE THE SAME INFO's OR A POOL OF INFO'S
. Noone would like to have many >DIFFERRENT< BBoAH's!!!

2. As I posted before:
I will change the .com to english as the main language. Please give me some time. I'm a verrrrrry poooooor worker and have to work every day :-)

regards
novamann :-)

I agree 100% with you. bboah.com should be the main and complete site. Let the wiki be, let people fill it with info, and propagate them back to the main site. Think of it as another way people can submit to bboah  :-)

About the work, yeah, same here  :-D
