Israel bans Microsoft Software
« on: October 15, 2003, 10:16:39 AM »
"The Israeli Ministry of Commerce has suspended all governmental contracts with Microsoft, and indicated that the ban will last throughout 2004. The de facto suspension means no upgrades for the duration, at a time when Microsoft is looking to roll out its Office 2003 upgrade; and the Ministry is said to be examining OpenOffice as an alternative."

The headline is a tad inaccurate - Israel has suspended all government contracts with MS.

Doesn't seem like a ban as much as a change of business strategy...

can they please ban it in all of europe soon=? ,
this is very cool....hmm

though 1 downside..  life of brian was banned in norway from 1978-1995 , though it was banned...but 75% of the young people had seen it anyway..bear in mind...this was before internet times!...oh i saw it in 1988 or something :D

so this might mean using m$ products will be cool ;(
Whats up with all the hate!

Why on earth would anyone want to ban "Life of Brian"? :-?

Perhaps it just was a "dålig Norge-historia"?  :-P  ;-)

Hey, it was banned in Swansea as well! :-)

Anyway, I don't think MS OfficeXP 2003 will become "cult" even if it's banned by a few governments ;-)

I am using OO.org's spreadsheet editor right now, and I must say it's working very well. People keep telling me I should use gnumeric because it has better Excel import, but I made the original document in OO.org, so why on EARTH would I convert it to a different format now? :-)

@granny
Nope! På DVD'n så gör man reklam med det:
"Filmen som är så rolig så att den förbjöds i Norge!"

Maybe it was belated disgust at the Norway-related opening subtitles to the Holy Grail? :-)

Nope, Life of Brian was considered blasphemy. That's all the reason that part of the auhtorities needed back then :-)
