Yeah I know, your average Amiga (even the powerful A2000 professional!) can't do a lot of the things that a PC or Mac can in relation to educational stuff.

But when I was a kid and first got my shiny new A500, one of things I delved into with great enthusiasm was programming.

Sure I started off with the awful Amiga Basic, but then I discovered the light: AMOS and Blitz Basic.

Kids these days can navigate the internet, publish documents, and create multimedia extravaganza's but I've yet to meet a 12 year old who could program even remotely as good as I could when I was that age.  Not that I was brilliant or anything.

I doubt there are any PC/Mac setups that you could program as easily, or with such powerful results, as a good old A2000 running AMOS.

Certainly a damn sight cheaper.

The next generation are becoming excellent computer users, but very few know anything about the 'guts' of computing so to speak.

I'm a teacher myself; I think what Doomy's trying to do could be really valuable.

Sorry, I don't have any spare parts.

Did you need 50 pin ribbon cables? I have several of varying length to sell.

But, can any of you spare the parts I need?!

Not . . . for the good of the children. it is absolutely not educational, to teach to childrens the use of an Amiga when then they are
to having to use, Win in the life and for the job.

It is my experience with other operating systems that has helped me do more weird & wonderful things with Windows.  It is that experience that helps me think less in the boundaries of how the operating system wants you to do things, but how things would be more efficient/suitable for you.

Kids should be taught to apply skills.  Starting off with the latest version of Windows and a P4 isn't going to help them do that.  And don't start advocating "we teach them only what they need to know", then you may as well throw out half the school syllabus, and have a load of ignorant little idiots who only know how to sit behind a desk to do telesales for the next 40 years of their working lives.

In every other subject in school, you don't learn only the answers to the questions that will come up in the exams.  That is of no use to anyone, except as a test of your memory.

Computer skills should be taught so that they can be applied to virtually any platform and operating system.  Otherwise kids have to 'unlearn' what they have learned in order to pick up another operating system.  If you want Windows to be the only operating system available to the masses for the rest of time, you do things your way.

Well Mr DoomMaster!

You have had quite a life so far haven't you? Lets see, you have:

1) Worked for Commodore making all the Amiga models.

2) You had a hand in designing Amiga OS 4.0 and you are exclusively making it for your beloved Amiga 2000HD.

3) Wrote an article based on Amiga's in magazine and website that you claim to be yours.

4) And now you are being a computer teacher and equiping computer rooms with Amiga 2000HD.

Am i the only one here thats jealous of what Doomy has achieved? What next then Doomy, send George Bush some Amiga 2000HD's to help him with terrorists? Help NASA with space missions via his Amiga 2000HD?

Come on Doomy what have you got in store for us next? I am dying to know cos you have seemed to have just jumped from one thing to another with ease.
A1200D / AGA / B1260 / 64MB RAM / KS 3.1 / AOS 3.9 / 4GB HD

FYI i haven't a PC-Win system but for the good of childrens at primary school, yes i hope that they learn how to use a "standard" system.

I love Doom, that's why I sent him my CrossDos disks, anyhow.
