@JoannaK

It's not quite similar because many 8 bit games actually fit quite well too the mobile phones (thinking at how complex they are, simple graphics, sound etc..).

Even though they are pretty simple, most of the other products on celluar phones are also simple so they don't look so dated, as a C=64 game will do compared to an X-BOX game.

But it's also the only example I know of succesfull 8(16) bit revival.

And I could imagine your description of Tulip to be very precise..

I think you have hit the nail right on the head.

I don't think C64 fans are going to be impressed. I actually think it will backfire on Tulip.

Time for Individual Computers to start protecting the Commodore-1 and Jeri from these gold diggers.

Nothing, nil, zilch, zero will come of this Tulip "venture".

C64 fever :-o , oh come on.

I just cannot see what Tulip are trying to achieve - apart from milking whatever IP rights they've inherited with the Commodore name.

If people want a retro C64 experience/get C64 fever - they can buy the real thing on ebay anyway.

F@£k Tulip!

DAMN!!  :-o

I wonder if they'll restart stocking old C= 64 parts?  I could use them to double the SID voices, replace a defective RAM chip and get a HD.  :-D

Am I the only one who thinks these two quotes in the same press release doesn't add upp? :-x

" Currently there are about 300 commercial websites that use the name Commodore or Commodore 64 without having a license from Tulip. Tulip will not allow unauthorised use of the Commodore brand."

"The main objective of the Ironstone official C64 portal is to unite this massive global fan base of passionate enthusiasts."

Methinks Tulip-USA is getting hit with a DDOS attack; the page has been inacessable (HTTP: 501 Too Many Users) all day.

Wouldn't surprise me if the C= fanbase banded together and did this, not one single bit...

I just got to the page.  What a bunch of sad bastards.  This would be like me and a few venture (no pun intended to the next statement) capitalists getting together to fund a return of the Exidy Sorcerer II home computer!

It'd be laughable if it didn't mean quite a few things:

Endangerment of the WHEELS O/S (a GUI based OS for the C64, complete with web-browser and TCP/IP stack that works through a cartridge-port NIC).

Endangerment of the Commodore One

Endangerment of those 300+ websites archiving tons and tons of software that otherwise would've gone the way of bit rot.

What sane person would pay to play "Save New York" or "Dino Eggs" or "Gunship" or "Temple of Apshai" when all they want to do is have a bash at games that are going on 25 years old?  I mean, really.

Well, I'm sure they'll try to extract their pound of flesh.  I just hope Jeri's project survives.  Hell, I hope Tulip buys a clue and realizes what the CommodoreOne can/could mean and fronts Jeri a crapload of money and makes her the chief engineer!
