Wow thats just some crap! I am so sick of M$ and forcing everyone into using tis POS they call windows. I got a MAC the other day and am slowly learning to use it. So far most everything I do on a PC I have found for it. I hope this just blows up in M$ face!

The beginning of their downfall... They already lost $millions$ trying to sell their eunich pc, repackaged as a console, now they are trying to beat Nokia's solutions in the mobile market, a market that they don't have a clue about.... then this stupid BIOS thing.... are you aware of how many people are S-I-C-K of using windows? With the right promotion and movement the Amiga/Pegasos market can be benefited HUGELY! There is a s!@tload of people out there who would like a fully responsive OS that loads in 5-7 secs, doesn't crash for no apparent reason, and is easy to learn but with full respect to the user's intelligence.

But isn't THAT just the first step towards MS® locking x86 computer-users in?

ANYONE using MS® x86 systems who hasn't read (and understood) Andrew Grygus' 2003 And Beyond document is sorely information deficient!

'To support all this, the Microsoft EULA (End user license agreement) you have "signed" (by the act of using Windows XP or by downloading recent Service Packs and security fixes) specifically states that Microsoft has the right to inspect software on your PC and to change or disable that software as they wish, without notice to you, and without liability to Microsoft, to protect copyrights (including their own). This means Microsoft has complete administrative rights to your PC - home or business.'

Do they NOT aim to LOCK-IN x86 owners COMPLETELY to MS®?

Check the most recent service packs, such as Win2k SP4.  Those parts have been removed, and necessary parts re-worded to be much more reasonable.

Believe it or not, but i am sure in 10 years, you will have no other choices than microsoft software... Open Source software will die due to software patents and the help of microsof, except for a few hardcore users, but will certainly die in the commerical areas  :-(
And you will end up only being able to boot microsoft products on x86 hardware, except for if open source boards/chips will become produced.. sigh what a bright future.

Athens [Update 9 May 2003]: Microsoft has now specified the "next generation PC", code named "Athens" (R13) in precise detail. The specification ties PC design tightly to Microsoft's Windows initiatives and DRM (Digital Rights Management) plans, leaving no options for differentiation among PC vendors (R14). Athens is a "Microsoft Branded" PC in every detail except the label on the front.

Details of the specification raise questions as to whether any other operating system will be able run on this new machine, which will include Palladium chip based "security" features. As they now do with XBox (R15), Microsoft may be expected to pursue legal action against anyone who modifies Athens PCs to enable use of "unapproved" software.

sit down!

"ALL YOUR BIOS ARE BELONG TO US!"

"Someone sent us up the Phoenix!"

"Resistence is futile -- prepare for MS® assimilation!!"
