MagicMenu on OS4.1?
« on: November 13, 2008, 08:03:59 AM »
OK - I'm not really a 'dock' person, and don't want a WinBlows-like launch button either - I like the old-school MagicMenu approach (kind of like X11/WindowMaker on Unix/Linux does it) where you just right-click, then see progressive menus pop up until you pick what you want to launch.

So does the old MagicMenu work under emulation in OS 4.1 (the last copy I see on Aminet is still 68K); or is there something of its equiv. now for OS 4.1?  I see a few apps on OS4Depot that may have this type of functionality but thought i'd ask here too?

thanks!

So, why would you need something that's already built-in OS4? I mean, in case you didn't know, that functionality can already be enabled by os4's gui prefs. Is there something very specific that magic menu has and os4 lacks?

ToolsDaemon i guess ... 2.1b version is installed on my OS4.0 classic system since the beginning.

@amigau

It has been a very long time since I have used MagicMenu.

For OS4.0 and OS4.1 menus function like this (by default) ...

If you move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen and press down the right mouse button, the menus drop down from the title bar at the top of the screen.

If the mouse pointer is anywhere else on the screen, the menus open up near the mouse pointer.  Some programs, such as IBrowse will show a different menu for certain areas in the window.

no, not tied to MM specifically - looks like I have more reading to do - I've been 'off' Amigas for the past several years (not really by choice), time to get back on the bicycle!  Thanks!

I think in reading the other post it was really ToolsDaemon I was after, which may already be handled by something else in OS 4.1 too?  Time to RTFM :)

An easy mistake to make, I'd forgotten about Tools Daemon too!
