AmigaSYS 4 AGA settings?
« on: November 08, 2008, 09:33:23 AM »
Hi,

Just playing with AmigaSYS 4 AGA at the moment, but I'm having a bit of trouble locating the prefs/settings for things like the on-screen Workbench clock/calendar and also how to make the border/title of the active window a different colour from inactive ones (as in good old Workbench 3.1).

Oh, and does anyone know what the "ASYS4:" bar (under the "CHIP:" and "FAST:" RAM indicator bars) is for?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to find any real docs for AmigaSYS, other than the installation HTML help files...

Any help or pointers appreciated!

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi Mike,

The meters and menu on the right is a program called TinyMeter. The ASYS4: bar shows how much space is left on your system partition. To change the preferences you have to make a few changes. Goto the Prefs drawer and select show all from the workbench/windows menu. Now you can see the TinyMeter prefs program, but it needs a stacksize of 8192 to run. So start icon-edit and set the icon-type to tool. Save the icon in the prefs drawer as Tinymeter.info. Now goto the prefs drawer again, select the tinymeter icon and select icon-info from the workbench/icon menu. Change the stacksize to 8192 and save it. Now you can start tinymeter prefs by doubleclicking it. You can change the font-style by going to the compose list tab and doubleclicking on the clock items.
It looks like amigasys uses birdie to change the window borders, but I can't find nothing in startup-sequence, so I have to figure out where they can be changed. I'll keep you informed when I find out how to change them.

Hi Mike,
Yep I was right. Amigasys uses birdie. To change the window borders you need to download and install BirdiePrefs. For some reason this program is not included in amigasys.

Hi Llyod,

Once again you've come up trumps! :-)

The only other thing I've been stumped with is how to change the font/date settings of the desktop/workbench clock. I hunted around for (I assume that it IS WorkbenchClock!) the program, but could only find the info file...

There does seem to be a lot of leftover/superfluous directories and stuff (I could be wrong!), which I might have to contact the developers about - to see what I should keep and what I can clean out.

If only there were some better docs for it... But it is still a VERY nice WB install!

Cheers,

Mike.

The clock and date also comes with Tinymeter. Like I said in my previous post, start tinymeter prefs, goto the compose list tab and doubleclick on each clock item. There you can set the font-style.

Hi Lloyd,

Thanks for the update and advice - TinyMeter is a very handy little app!

Cheers,

Mike.

No Problem.
If you're looking for more documentation, look in the readme drawer.
There are loads of amigaguide files in there about various applications that are used in amigasys.
