Was there any "official" modem for the A500+?

Hi I was wondering whether there was any official modem for the Amiga 500+.

I did a little research on the amiga-hardware site and found a list of modems but none of them tell if they where for the A500+ or any other Amiga!

Does anyone have an idea?

I think that there was none made official for the 500 because the Amiga computers could use any modem made for computers using serial port. The Amiga used a standard serial port unlike other computers that used custom ports, i.e the Atari, C64, etc.. so there was no need in making an official modem for it.

wow, an official commodore amiga branded modem? probably wouldn't be able to push more than 2400 baud at wirespeed :lol: sorry :-D

any external serial port modem with work fine on an amiga just the same as a PC :-)
 
i started off with a noname 2400 speed block of grey, but the speed didn't bother me as i only connected to BBS's but didn't download (nor pay the phone bill).
then i got an X-link 14.4k and was king of the hill till a mate got a 28.8k rebranded something from PCworld.
then 56.6k became cheap plentifull.

As a matter of fact, there ARE Amiga branded modems. I myself have one (new and unused in box - still thinking about selling it :-))

I found a list of modems for the Amiga here:

There are several "Commodore" brand modems.

So you people are saying that most of these would just work without any problem (obviously the ones with a serial port)?

yup, any serial port phoneline modem will work  :-)

a small idea i've just had, is that with the slow death of dialup internet access, there are serialport2bluetooth adapters. then you may be able to use a mobile phone as a data hookup...? just an idea... oh and providing you have an unlimited data tarif...

I think that one was made for the A1000, but could be used for the 500. IIRC, it came with a mounting bracket that it "hooked" on the side of the 1000. I got one with my A1000 like that anyway, but I could be wrong.

Back in the day, I think the unofficial official modem was a US Robotics Courier HST Dual Standard (until V.34 came along, anyway). ;-)

Well yes if you know the required initialisation code (It may automatically appear when you select the modem type in your software, but then it may not depending on the software. Ymmv !). I had a lot of fun with those over the years.

If you are after a modem, I would advise you to get one that is known to work with the Amiga  :idea:

ATZ or AT&F should work nicely on most modems to init them =).

Modems intended for consumer use have been fairly standard, i.e. pin-out and Hayes command set, since the mid-80's. The differences appear in error correction, high-speed protocols, and software-assisted implementations (softmodems or "Winmodems").

 Excellent question! and the answer is YES, all you need is a pair bluetooth serial adapters (or a serial and a USB) and use it to connect to the PC, sharing the (slow transfer) connection.:eureka:
