Does A4000T's scsi.device support diskchange for e.g. Zip drives?
« on: September 21, 2008, 02:22:31 PM »
Hey everyone, Well, I am finally getting my 4000T working right.. Woo Hoo! One minor snag, it seems like the in-built scsi.device doesn't recognise diskchanges on my Zip drive. My previous set-up with a 1260 + 12xx SCSI module handled it like a champ..
Is there an easy fix?

If not, it's not the end of the world, I have a 'SCSI mounter' that first un-mounts then mounts the Zip drive, making it show up, but it's a pain....

Thanks all,

Does the DiskChange command work if you issue it (with correct device name) through a Shell? That used to work on my A500+/A570CD when the system didn't manage it on its own.
:)

I'm pretty sure my A3k's SCSI worked with a Syquest, but I haven't tried for a while...

My A4091, which is the same as the A4000T SCSI, worked fine with CD-ROMs.  But, I never put a Zip drive on it to test.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hey thanks,

meega, Diskchange does nothing....

adolescent: I think CD-ROM's are really a different animal as far as diskchange goes... you need a CD-Filesystem and/or DosDriver for CD's, IIRC, not needed for zip disks...
Both my CD drives handle diskchanges fine, via AsimCDFS...

(need to find a better CDFS...)

If you boot with media inserted, the RDB mechanism will mount it automatically (if RDB compatible partitioning is found), but afaik NO disk change will be possible.

It's better to mount it through a DOSdrivers mountlist, that way a diskchange should be detected - BUT make sure both disk share the same layout/geometry.

I have an A4000T and a ZIP drive, but I haven't used the ZIP drive in more than 5 years.
I seem to recall a HiSoft mount and unmount button though. I used PC (8*3) and Amiga ZIPs in the drive, back in the day.

IDEfix97 (from Aminet) can mount and use Zip drives (SCSI and IDE versions, of course).

And yes, if detects if the disk inside the unit is removed. Don't use it as boot partition!
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
