Help: Catweasel and the IDE port
« on: September 04, 2008, 04:06:28 PM »
HI,

I will like to know if is possible to connect the
Catweasel MK2 Anniversary Edition in the IDE port of the FastAta. I know that is possible in the IDE port of the A1200 but I will like to know if there is any problem connecting in the FastAta IDE port.

Thanks,

If i'm not mistaken, the catweasel anniversary edition is intended for the Amiga Clockport, not for the ide.

Look in the manual at Jens´ page.

Using a wild guess I´d say no. I guess he´s using some kind of magic to "patch" it onto the ide without disrupting it. So unless you can change the software settings in the mount list or something like that from amiga scsi.device (ide) to the fast atas ide device, I think not. But I have never used the product, so I´m just guessing.

But look in the manual. It´s here.
A posting a day keeps the sanity away...

It's likely the driver (multidisk.device) talks to Gayle directly rather than using standard I/O requests.

From BBOAH:
Catweasel
There are two main versions of the Catweasel, the A1200 version which is designed to connect to the clock port of the A1200, or in the A4000 it connects to the internal IDE port with a pass-thru for hard drives. The second version is a Zorro II card.
Catweasel MKI

Catweasel MKII
The catweasel Mk II is available in two versions, one designed to connect to the A1200's clock port and the other is a half length Zorro II card. This card allows the addition of up to 2 floppy drives and 6 IDE devices. This card is basically a combination of the Catweasel and the Buddha IDE controller.
MKII

If i am not mistaken the MKII is Zorro or clockport only...
But it provides you with IDE ports...
Amiga 1200 Tower Os 3.9
BPPC 603e+ 040-25/200, 256MBram, BVIsionPPC, Indivision AGA MK2.
Amiga 2000 (rev 4.0) Os 1.2/1.3
2088 bridgeboard, 2MB ram card, 2091 SCSI.
Amiga 500+ Os 2.1
Derringer 030, 32MBram, Buddha in sidecar, Indivision ECS.
Amiga CD32
Video decoder

That is the intention, but I did use that exact version of the CatWeasle MkII in my A4000D which is installed in a PowerTower to control a PC HD Floppy drive and an IDE Zip100 optical drive.  So I know it works connected to an A4000 IDE port, why would it not work connected to an A1200 IDE port or the FastATA port?
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Thanks for the reply. I am starting to think that only Jens can answer this question. I thought the same think "why not"?
