« on: June 14, 2008, 02:02:33 PM »
I have a 030/25MHz card in my A2000 and there is a possibility to buy a 030/40MHz CPU. Is it a worth buy?

YES...
If you're using the Amiga for Video Toaster work and some AMIGA specific hardware like VLab, VideoToaster Flyer, DCTV, or Oaplvision, for stuff like animation and audio playback then every bit helps. Someting where the CPU is used intenvely. Lightwave comes to mind, but if you're doing Lightwave on an Amiga these days, you're either a massocist or have time to kill.

If you're doing any taks that can be achieved on a PC running UAE, you'll find that a $300 walmart PC running  will outclass the most expensive Amiga CPU card. Do this all the time for programs like Adpro and Image FX, even deluve paint and personal paint. Want 4 megs chip ram? no probmem. Want an 060? just hit a switch.

You could always hold up until you find a 50Mhz one, the cream of all 030 CPU's.

Thx guys, my card is upgradeable up to 40MHz.
I hope that it will not be to too complicated to replace the old CPU.

It really depends on the price.

With the right software setup you can seriously improve your Amiga performance without a CPU upgrade.

If you already have this setup, you have to decide what you do with your Amiga. An 030 card is plenty fast enough to play games using WHDload.

BTW: those 50MHz 030s are good to overclock to 56MHz without problems! ;-)
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I've just put a heathsink glued (with thermal tape) over CPU & FPU plus a notebook fan (vertical stand) blowing air in the direction of 'em (and to cool the 128Mb SIMM you sold me ;-)).

 Works like a charm.

Sounds like a job for a spare P IV cooler I have somewhere in my messed up room, it's big enough to fit over both processor and fpu
