DENEB on G-Rex4000D , DMA non working issue...?
« on: June 09, 2008, 01:16:34 PM »
Hiya!
today (finally) I installed my 1st DENEB on the g-rex4000 A4000... I removed the kickflash/subway combo, installed DENEB and PSD4 on top of 3.8 ... I chose the DMA driver, the card went online, but no USB device would work... When inserting a usb-flash-disk I get the usual pop-up for it, but it won't show up in wb, and there is a complain about bad blocks on it...
selecting the PIO driver on the other hand makes everything work OK
plus I got some yellow gurus on startup too after the intro, I had to completelly erase the flash  :lol:
is there a solution to use the DMA driver?
this A4000D has a rev11 buster, a 233mhz 060/50 csppc, the grex4000D and a voodoo3/3000 , the test config... (will later add the lan/sound card on g-rex)
anyone else tested a DENEB on g-rex4000D?

First step: keep the PIO driver.

We have some mysterious cases in which DMA fails, but it is hard to track down the problem from remote in computer systems over 15 years old, with a mixture of different hardware pieces.

In one case we found an A3640 Rev3.0 card causing malfunction of DMA...

Did any other Zorro III DMA card work in your setup before?
Do you have the "original" A4000d daughter card at hand?

Hi,

maybe the 680x0.library causes this.
I had problems using my RainbowIII with CSPPC and the P5-libs.
Try http://aminet.net/util/libs/MMULib.lha . That worked fine for me and you can do some finetuning... :crazy:

@mboehmer_e3b:

no , I don't have the original zorro busboard... and I naver tried any zorro cards on the g-rex, except the kickflash/subway combo...
I am waiting for a 2nd DENEB to use on my other A4000D, it has the same libs/csppc but with a picassoIV+goldengate486slc cards...

@Michael_D:

will give it a shot, I now use the g-rex 060 libs and oxypatcher  :-)

I have a GRex with Deneb too and also have the DMA problem. No worries but I guess that GRex4000 is just not the right combo.

no, I bet this happens simply because E3B does not have a g-rex4000 to test...  :-D

@mboehmer_e3b :

if you have a csppc, I can send my g-rex4000D to test DENEB  :-) (but only as a loan g-rex, I cannot part with it  :lol:  :lol:  :lol:  )

This problem has been isolated to a bug in the bootloader that occurs when SetPatch has installed the exec.library update from boingbag 2. New bootloaders will be provided soon. The guru itself is harmless and can be avoided by either using a redirection to >NIL: instead of QUIET in the SetPatch line or by placing the ROM Updates in the flashrom and using NOROMUPDATE, or by skipping the exec.library update using SKIPROMUPDATES "exec.library".
