3.9 Emergency Disk problems
« on: April 30, 2008, 09:43:51 PM »
Hi, I tried to install 3.9. It came with an emergency disk (possibly to mount CD0: to read from the cd-rom drive), but it comes up with this message:

"Cannot open atapi.device unit 3".

Any help? Thanks.

You have to change the device and unit number in the
CD0 mount file in df0:devs/dosdrivers.

Change the device? You mean to change it to scsi.device?

And what about the unit number. I have one HD (Master) so the cd-rom must be slave and unit=0, right?

Well, it would help to know to what type of controller
your CDROM is attached. Íf you attached it to the onboard
ide-controller as a slave behind your HD, I asume it's
scsi.device and unit 1. Not 100% sure though, because
I attached my CDROM to the ide-controller of my X-surf.

Yes, that's right. It loaded. But the monitor goes crazy. I connected to 1084S. Is it supposed to be connected via VGA? :-o

Well, normally your supposed to create your own
emergency disk and it will be made according to what kind
of system you have.
Try to rename df0:prefs/env-archive/sys/screenmode.prefs
to df0:prefs/env-archive/sys/screenmode.prefs.save and
reboot. It will then use a PAL-screen.

Delete prefs/env-archive/sys/screenmode.prefs from the disk. Then try again.

You would do better creating your own emergency disk. The previous owner obviously did many changes to the configuration before he sold the machine, so the emergency disk does no longer match.

Bye,
Thomas

Thanks guys for your replies.

I connected my A4000 on the LCD monitor, through the Scandoubler, and I installed 3.9 into HD.

I rebooted and everything seems normal. But how I can use my GFX Card now?

Install the graphics card software ? Either picasso96
or Cybergfx. There are versions of these on the os3.9 CD.

I could never get the Emergency Disk to work on my A1200, think I gave up in the end and just cold-booted from the 3.1 disk
