Amiga / usb keyboards
« on: April 25, 2008, 02:57:22 AM »
When you use a usb keyboard on an Amiga, is there a way to control the Amiga workbench pointer with the usb keyboard? With an Amiga keyboard, you could use some combo like ALT-CTRL-CURSOR KEYS to move around, but I cannot seem to find the combination with a usb keyboard (my usb keyboard is connected to an Amiga 2000 / os3.9 / highway).

Also, was there any way to do a warm reset through a usb keyboard?

With ordinary keyboards, any Amiga key + cursor will move the pointer. Amiga + LAlt is a left click and Amiga + RAlt is a right click. Should be the same with USB, except with Windows keys. To reboot, make sure 'Enable keyboard reset' is ticked in the hid class prefs in Poseidon.

"is there a way to control the Amiga workbench pointer with the usb keyboard?"

Yes, should. Command keys such as this are remapped, and normally work.

"Also, was there any way to do a warm reset through a usb keyboard?"

Again, yes. This should work.

"I cannot seem to find the combination with a usb keyboard (my usb keyboard is connected to an Amiga 2000 / os3.9 / highway)."

I was using the windows key I believe as the Amiga keys...

Last I used USB keyboard and mouse was through subway and Poseidon on a A1200. It work great. You could not however enter the early boot up menu, as the drivers were not load at that point.

Some better help may be on the way....

The drivers /are/ loaded at that point if you make them resident (or install them to flashrom) and given you have AmigaOS3.9 BoingBag 2 installed with updated bootmenu (which uses a system conform way to check the mouse buttons), you will be able to enter the boot menu and use the USB mouse (or keyboard) there.

As for the mouse emulation, everything has been said already :)
