A1200 BSOD

I went to boot up my trusty A1200 just a few minutes ago & it booted up weird.   The HD & floppy LEDs came on & I got either a plain purple screen or it was magenta.  I wasn't sure because I was using an external scan doubler (the Toaster Scan).

I unplugged my mains power supply, then unplugged my p5 A1260 & turned it on - nothing but a messy display.  I thought it was maybe a loose connection.

I plugged the A1260 back in with the mains power supply off, then turned it on & all I got was a plain navy blue screen displayed.

I'm assuming a custom chip (Alice, Lisa, or Paula) burnt out?

I've heard nice things about Amigakit in France with regards to repairs.  Could they possibly fix this?

 Hello Rabbi.

 The correct name is Amiga Center! Amigakit is a reseller (a very good one, BTW).

 I never use their services (albeit a lot of people here use/d it), since I'm a DIY man...

I believe this is the place you want for repairs : Amiga Center. Although AmigaKit are very good and probably have replacement mainboards you could buy if it works out cheaper.

From Anthony Hoffman's invaluable site:

 Purple - Not an "official" color, but may be caused by bad ROMs.

I'd recommend pushing down on the ROM chips to make sure they are securely in, and checking all other connections.
Usual method - detach everything and test, and build your way up testing one expansion at a time.

PS this is for the A4000, , but I assume the A1200 has identical fault indicating colour screens at startup.

I'll try that .  The ROMS are sitting in the Elbox FastATA MK-III IDE accelerator.  My spare A1200 won't boot up, either.  But, it's been ages since I turned it on, too.  Will try everything.  I'm just wondering if my mains power supply went south.  How do I test this out?  On a VOM? :-?

 Elbo* FastBadContact you said? This is a major cause of that beautiful purple colour!

 Reseat everything ASAP and if no juice, take that ba***rd off your Miggy! :madashell:
