Picasso II manual or: how to connect things?
« on: April 10, 2008, 08:38:15 AM »
I have bought a Picasso II and an A2320 SD/FF card, which I want to use in my A2500. A quick search on the web didn't return a manual for the Picasso, so I would like to know how to connect things:

1. Which connector on the Picasso is for the monitor, and to which one do I connect the A2320?
2. Do I just use a standard VGA cable (15-pins male connector on both sides) to run from the A2320 to the Picasso?
3. Does anyone have a manual for the Picasso, or does one exist online somewhere?
4. If I run (boot) a game from floppy, does it still display on the VGA monitor connected to the Picasso (which is connected to the A2320)?

I had a set up almost identical to this except I had the Picasso II and A2320 in a 2000. I was told to use trial and error to figure out the correct one. It wont hurt if you get the wrong one.
1. From memory, the bottom one is the input, so connect your A2320's output to there. Don't quote me on this though. My Picasso had the connector marked so I never committed which was which to memory.
2. I used a standard 15-pin VGA cable on mine and it worked fine.
3. I might. I have an extraordinarily large amount of crap in storage. So much so I lose things. As chance would have it, I'm going through it all this weekend. If the manual turns up I'll scan and post it.
4. You don't need another monitor. Picasso will just switch to the required mode. Since you're using an A2320, the native Amiga mode will be displayed just fine.

Another thing with the Picasso II, you can't have more than 6MB or 7MB (Depending on whether you have the 1MB or 2MB version) fast RAM or it wont work. Or more accurately, you have to set Picasso to work in segmented mode, which I'm told is slower.

maps its memory directly into the Zorro II address space - speeds up manipulation of graphics memory but limits the amount of fast RAM to 6 MB -

Bottom? What orientation is the card? Ahh... A2000 cards go vertically. ;-)

Yup. Two connectors on a vertical card. One on top, the other on the bottom.

I've only had A3000/A4000 for a long time. (Which are horizontal.)

Ahh. Never did have a 3000 or 4000 myself. I would like to have though.

Well, I found the Picasso II Manual after cleaning up my storage space. You probably already know by now, but I can confirm that the bottom connector is the Picasso input connector. And the top one goes to the monitor.

If you're interested McVenco, I can scan the entire Picasso II manual and upload the pics to Photobucket.
