Mac and CF card Problem.maybe someone can help?
« on: April 03, 2008, 07:20:23 PM »
Hy am new to the Forum and it helped me a lot gathering info.
Now i got my A1200 HD and i got Problems with transferring from Mac via a CF Card to A1200.

First the cf card gets recognised by the A1200.
then i did put it in my mac and it gets recognised too.
i downloaded pinball fantasies .adf(Couldn wait to play it after 15 years!)

i copied to the cf and then tried to transfer to disk(with ADF Blitzer).
the A1200 could read the files but had an error while writing to disk....so i formatted the cf and now the mac doesn't recognise the cf card anymore...
Does anybody know which way i have to format the cf card with the amiga so that my mac can see the cf card again????
Thanks for any Help..tried everyhing... am off to the liquor store :-?

Might be a silly question, but do you have fat95 installed on your A1200? If the card is then formatted as a FAT volume it should work fine on both. (I know "0" about Macs, but I assume they recognize FAT volumes.)

CF needs to be formatted in FAT16.

Amiga 1200 into a DBox Tower with PPC603e@166Mhz040 256MB Mediator PCI SX - Ide-Fix Express OS4 Classic Voodoo3 Fast Ethernet - A1200 030@40MHZ - A2000 030@25MHZ - A500 - A500+ - A600 - C64 + MMC REPLAY!!!

I know bugger all about macs either :-P

But can you not do a format with the card plugged into your Mac? As you would a floppy?

i.e. On an XP PC just right click on the card icon on your desktop and select format. If there's an option for FAT under the types of format - pick that.

My XP PC doesn't have a FAT16 format option but it does have a FAT format option and that works on my 1200 Tower  :-)

You don't need a FAT format command on the Amiga - you just need to format it as FAT. On a PC would do you.

There are several files that need to be set up on your Amiga to be able to read the card though  :rtfm:

On the EAB board there's been a similar discussion - although not concerning Macs - but it may help you.

Have a look at this thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=34351

Hope that helps  ;-)

The mac should be able to handle the CF-Card through Disk Utility.
The program is found in "Applications/Utilities".

Start it up and you will find that to the left all your hardware disk-devices are listed.
Highlight your CF-Card and format it with the "MS-DOS" filesystem option.
This puts a FAT16 filesystem on your CF-Card and you are good to go!!

Hope this helps....

Format the cf card on the Mac...the Mac system looks at it like a DOS drive.  Mac isn''t all that mysterious...

One thing, you have to use the disk utilities program, in the OSX applications folder.  Since they ditched the disk drive, Apple considers the CF card to be a hard drive and you have to use the utilities to format.

I don't have a lot of into to go on, but in case your FAT adventures don't work out, I recommend looking at MaxTransfer (search for this term), if you're dealing with a hard drive attached:

Good luck!
