Paul was a moderator over at EAB

He passed away last year.

His nickname was the Green Amiga Alien and his workbench install is available for people to use...

You should have a AmigaOS 2.xx disk called Install. that one is used to install amiga OS on HD, partition it etc.

That's true, but only if the A600 have the kickstart version 37350. Earlier versions can't handle the IDE interface (although version 37300 may handle HD's up to 40Mb).

But like bloodline suggest, upgrading to OS 3.1 is recommended. That would include new ROM chip and disks.

Then its basicly down to what you want.
To take advantage of the full 40gb hd out of the box I would recommend a IDE interface from  ELBOX. It ships with lba48 addressing modes drivers and with added features of CD/DVD drivers and an additional IDE port.

The Elbox IDE interface is not intended for AGA Amigas?

To get the fastest performance I would recommend SFS filesystem aswell.

As far as I know, SFS will not work on Amigas with 68000 CPU, only with 68020 or up!

so to sum it up: this would be recommended.

OS 3.1 floppy set
OS 3.1 Rom A600

Elbox IDE interface

If you know your way around EBAY you can get this considerably cheaper.

Next you should perhaps forget about os 3.9 and above. you can get 3.1 fairly up to speed with the updates classicWB contains.

hope this helps

Amiga OS3.9 can run on A600 too! But not the ROM updates. All needed is ROM 3.1 (and a CD-ROM to install it). More memory is a must-have for this kind of upgrade, like the one LordV make, and is available in this site. Only US40.00 (plus shipping)!

Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Smart Filesystem requires 68020 or better and OS 3.0 or better, thats true. So an Accelerator would be needed.

The Elbox interface I linked to says A600 and when I look on Elbox own page that seems to be the case aswell.

The new A600 memory upgrade is very promising, I follow its development as close as I can bec it holds promise for A500 owners aswell.  :-) I hope they will make it work with IDE and perhaps 68020/030 features aswell
