Samsung Syncmaster 150MP
« on: January 11, 2008, 03:31:54 AM »
The Big Book of Amiga Hardware says the Syncmaster 150MP will sync down to Amiga native screen modes.  So I bought one on eBay and it does not.  Is there something I should know or are they just wrong about it?
Thanks

According to the manual on Samsung's site, the display only syncs down to 30 kHz, so they were probably referring to the Y/C and composite inputs. A deinterlaced and upconverted composite signal should still look rather nice.

There is a scart in port in the samsung monitor. So if you use an rgb-scart cable you can use it with the best quality at 15KHz.
Amiga 500: 68030@14MHz/68882@40MHz/ 5.5MB RAM/80MB HDD/Delfina FE Sound card/Kickstart 3.1/OS 3.1

A couple of notes on these Samsung monitors listed on the BBOA, since I just picked up a 171MP off the bay:

They will line-double non-laced modes, but they will not deinterlace -- laced modes still flicker and look terrible (similar effect as a 1084/etc).

Composite is also worthless.

On my NTSC unit, PAL screens are not displayed correctly at all. So these monitors are not both PAL/NTSC, only either/or.

The *only* thing that is acceptable is standard non-laced NTSC modes via the "D-TV" (VGA style HD) jack. However, there is at times a weird flicker, even then. So for us NTSC folk, they're essentially pointless for many games and pretty much all demos.

On a positive note, the interpolation (as usual with Samsungs) is very good, and non-native resolutions (that work) look just fine.

(Bummer to shell out so much $$$ experimenting the last year, trying to find a decent modern display... and finding my best options are a crappy old 1084 or WinUAE.)

Anyone looking for a basic, no frills, monitor that is capable of displaying all native Amiga display modes (except 1280x400 or whatever that crazy wide display is) and many resolutions from third party display cards and devices, I have 2 or 3 older NEC Multisyncs (2A and 3something) that will do the job fairly well that I am ready to sell.

Just drop me a PMail, or email.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

The NEC Multisync 3D does ALL Amiga screenmodes, including highgraphics.  I know because I have one but it no longer switches on.  Before I had hsi i tried NEC multisync 2A: it only shows doubled-scan modes, not PAl or NTSC

I've used an NEC 1810 for DVD authoring, stunning device for it's day. NEC have produced a lot of good screens suitable for Amiga, some sync down, others have seperate video input (often with BNC and suitable for NTSC too). NEC is a hardware partner Amiga probably SHOULD have courted.
